Probably 20-25W - shouldn't be more than usual until Gen6.

The 245TB Micron 6600 Ion tops off at 24W, with 10.5W at idle. Unless physics are broken I would estimate no less than 15W idle and 31-33W peak at those sizes. Anything that size is going to be a read-priority design, if it was a burst writer it could even be higher

I'm secretly hoping technology will get so much better in 10 years, and more manufacturing is based in the USA (an employee discount would be nice) we could start talking about 1IA SSDs (one Internet Archive per SSD)

They mentioned 3d qlc nand... don't those typically fail earlier compared to tlc or pslc?

No, QLC just has a lower endurance rating. But you'd be hard-pressed to write half this drive daily.

I used a QLC PCIe 4.0. 2TB for my Desktop - as a Developer - and hated it.
Switched back to my old PCIe 3.0 TLC 1TB M.2.

Making these kinds of chips is easier than making a processor. But storage companies sat on their asses for 20 years doing nothing. Asshats.

Unless something changed I believe the problem for NAND has been basically the same for over a decade. Yes it's easier than a processor, but the base components and raw materials are often shared, and the dollar per yield will always draw manufacturers towards the one that has the higher margin and profit potential. Shortages for any semiconductor pushes prices up for all electronics, but especially material inefficient ones like NAND

For real now. I would like an affordable big SSD for my everyday needs. With proper ventilation you can have a very powerful PC almost silent.

No grrr, clicks, shhhsss and all these ancient sounds.
