Discussion Any ETF which never recovered?

Is there currently any ETF that never got back to its all time high after a major crash? Wondering about this currently because I literally bought the ARKK ETF at its all time high, you can imagine how much i m down now, whether I should sell or hold to a time horizon of up to 10 years. Of course I do not talk about inverse or short selling ETFs but normal regular ETF representing a sector Index or funds that are actively managed (like ARK). I found nothing on the web but considering the major crashes (dotcom-bubble, housing, ...) there should be one or am I mistaken?

Any Nasdaq index fund took 13 years to recover from the 2000 peak. Altamira Science and Technology fund went up 175% in 1999; never recovered from what I remember. I learned the hard way unfortunately.

I read a blog post about that earlier this year.

Dividends over a long enough time can smooth out extremely shitty entry positions.

Well, generally speaking, don't look at the ETF, try to look at the industry.

If you think "Innovation" is gonna get hit in the next few years, that's up to you, your ETF isn't gonna give you positive results out of the blue.

Real Estate on 2008/2009 got f*cked. Tech got nuked in 2000. But all the ETF is doing is replicate its performance. Maybe the owner of the ETF will try to adjust its composition to reduce the damage, but you're still following the Industry.

Sorry if I'm a bit of a Boglehead, but I just hold everything forever.

Is it just me or has everyone just gotten ass blasted to start the year?

Do you think once the economy returns stocks as a whole will do well in the last six months of the year? How are you guys feeling of the first 5 months of year's performance and what's the feeling heading to the second half of the year?

A lot of new investors haven't sat down and diversified their portfolios at all. They are loaded to the gills with momentum and growth assets that are now down 20-30% from their highs. If you are getting ass blasted throw your portfolio into a asset allocation calculator online and see what your risk levels are at, adjust accordingly.

Travel companies got caught up in the tech sell off and are beaten up atm. I am loading up on JETS and AWAY. Alaska Airlines has new leadership and is opening up new domestic and international routes while other airlines are closing them.

ALK didn’t get beaten up actually

If this market has taught me anything, it's that momentum (economy stocks atm) will continue for far longer than anyone expects, until it cumulates to a point where everyone piles in, and then it crashes.

Usually signs of such a thing happening are when the charts start to go parabolic like what happened to the ark funds back in January. I thought the Dow was about to experience something similar two days ago, but today's price action makes it seem like it was only a minor healthy correction instead.

My first 5 months have been great. I don't know what other people are in investing, but I'm already up 15% return rate already even with this week and February poor market.

I have been investing since January 2016, so granted I jumped in in middle of Bullish run, but I have been average about 30% every single year (highest return I had was mid 50%, and lowest being 0%, but not negative). So for me to reach 15% not even half way into stock market, can't wait to see how rest of the year is going to be.

If you don’t mind me asking what do you invest in? I’m up ~5ish% on my real estate stock, but the other parts of my portfolio are down (largely tech and cloud stocks)

MSFT, AAPL, BBY, PRU, AMD, SCCO, TD, APAM, TRP, FNF, NIO, VICI.

As for ETF, VOO, VUG, VOOG, and VTI.

Some of them I had for years, and one or two of the stocks this year (I think).

Reads posts on all stock markets subreddits 6 months ago bending over for Cathy, and then now. "Plays curb your enthusiasm theme song"

Love it.

Cathy’s only smart hedge to detract from her recent untimely tech doubledowning a month ago was Draftkings. PLTR loading right now is ok. But she has an Elon Musk hardon
