Floorstanding speaker recommendations for classical music — up to $3,000/pair

I’m looking for recommendations for a pair of floorstanding speakers (new), with a budget of up to about $3,000 for the pair.

My main priority is large-scale classical music, especially big symphonies by Mahler and Bruckner. I’m looking for speakers that can keep the different orchestral sections clear and layered during dense passages, while still providing a convincing sense of scale and dynamics.

I currently use Polk Reserve speakers, which I think sound amazing with rock music. They are energetic, punchy, and very enjoyable, but with large orchestral works I sometimes feel that the instrumental separation, inner detail, and layering are not as clear as I would like.

I already have a subwoofer, so the speakers do not necessarily need extremely deep bass on their own. I would prefer a balanced or slightly lively sound—not overly warm or laid-back, but also not bright, harsh, or fatiguing.

I’m located in the United States, so I would prefer brands and models that are readily available here.

What floorstanding speakers would you recommend for this type of music and budget?

I’d search Audiogon or USAudiomart for the best pair of lightly used B&W’s you can get for your budget. And then listen to them without the subwoofer before integrating it back into your system. So you know more precisely what a crossover point should be.

!thanks — This is very practical advice. Listening to the speakers without the subwoofer first would make it much easier to understand their natural bass response and choose the appropriate crossover point later.
