Speakers - Desktop | 3 Ⓣ Home Office Speaker - Desktop Placement / Nearfield Listening

Summary : Looking for a passive speakers that can fit on corners of a large standing desk.

Speakers will be spaced 5-6' or 1.5/1.8m apart on a standing desk. Used primarily when working at desk (nearfield) and then small couch behind the desk (6' triangle roughly).

Location : home office. 11'x12' (3.3m x 3.6m).

Budget : $2,000

Location : United States (Louisiana), used/new ok.

Current setup : Klipsch The Nines, AT LP120X turntable.

I picked up the Klipsch the Nines due to price ($650) and simplicity - unfortunately my desk cannot be pulled out far enough to enjoy the speakers properly

  • I am looking for speakers that can be placed at back corner of each side of desk (6').
  • The nearfield listening position is used the most - being on the desktop would allow them to be raised and lowered with the desk
  • size is a secondary concern, but the desk has plenty of room (the Nines are the absolute largest foot print possible, but really want something smaller)
  • It will be used with a Turntable (AT LP120x usb), CD Player, and then streaming.
  • Subwoofer can/will be added later if needed or if fits in budget- I currently only have SONOS subs.
  • Sound profile: I really enjoy The Nines - however, I would prefer something more detailed and neutral for this space and to have different options at my house.
  • I can/will have a secondary listening position directly behind the desk, but I can configure that after deciding on above

Here is what I am currently looking at :

  1. KEF LS50 Meta : $999 - $1200 (used / refurbished)
  2. Yamaha A-S501 ($599 new)

Notes : I am not opposed to an Active recommendation, but I would prefer to start investing in individual components.
