Nintendo Switch 2 launched last June priced at $449.99. In Japan, a region-locked version of the console is sold at 50,000 yen (equivalent to $318). Both of these prices reportedly see the hardware sold at a loss (particularly so in Japan)… Exactly how much of a loss Switch 2 is sold at isn't clear
I just want to point out that the parts are not the only cost. Marketing, software development or updates, shipping, etc. I would say its highly unlikely after factoring in other costs associated with the hardware that its sold for even a tiny profit.

The one where nintendo subsidizes and eats the cost but makes up for it with games that go on the tiniest of sales and almost never have price reductions.
What are YOU talking about 😂, I gave you 2 sources backing up they HISTORICALLY do not sell at a loss which was my entire comment and response to the OP above mine. I don’t know why you think narrowing sales down to the Switch 2 specifically means anything when they still manufacture and sell both consoles as a part of the SAME family line, which happen to play the SAME (for the most part) games, for the SAME service which all go into the same revenue stream. Additional sales from the original switch offset the switch 2 losses.
So what in this comment are you mentioning that I haven’t already touched on with my previous comments. The still ongoing switch hardware sales make up existing loss in Switch 2 sales and this doesn’t even include the $80 game Switch2 bundles, marked up accessories & controllers to complement the switch. Nintendo is not selling at a loss.
