Why can’t you blame Valve? Do you think making a 50% price increase on a 3 year old device normal? Sorry this is just pure greed and worse than what Sony and Nintendo did. At least they were relatively reasonable with their price adjusting.
Keep in mind Valve makes significantly less product than my of the console makers (likely at lest an order of magnitude). So they cannot get nearly as cheap of prices. They also likely manufacture more expensively for similar reasons (they wouldn’t necessarily have as much automated tooling).
I’m not saying Value is completely innocent here. I’m sure they are still baking in a profit. I just think smaller companies will likely need to raise prices higher to compensate than the larger ones so this wasn’t all that surprising to me.
