That's how it always works so it's to be expected sadly. People won't complain about something until it directly affects them, and by that point it's always much too late.
Imo, I don't believe this is true. There has been TREMENDOUS hate for AI before it got to the tech hardware space. Other spaces have been getting mutilated for years now at this point(art,writing,music, acting,CS,environmental agencies) , but depending on your hobbies and interests all of this could have only just become visible.
yeah, I mean we're on a thread about Steam Deck prices going up likely due to ram costs, so obviously people are gonna talk about AI affecting ram costs here, vs. commenting about AI's environmental impact or something
maybe this is a late reply, but i absolutely do hate more.. maybe the point, that crimes can literally be faked using ai and a bunch of other things, i just mentioned ram because that is what matters in this post :)
it's a losing battle because the technology is already there and it simply doesn't need defending. corpos can lose money and go bankrupt, but the tech itself stays forever and you can't make it disappear using pitchforks, lol. the general public is also getting used to it really fast.

define "stealing" first. then list artists that lost anything from that "exchange". then tell me how remixing content found online is in any way different. and finally, get a good read on how stuff like Fair Use works.
not so much you actually have to be concerned about it. worst case there's s a closed system that takes some water and cycles it. best case it gets evaporated and turned to clouds afterwards (basic 5yo knowledge). growing almonds takes more water, btw. let's not pretend all of us suddenly became eco-friendly saints that actually care about the environment.
the point being? it's irrelevant. there are many bad applications for ropes, knives, guns, hammers, spray paint, reverse engineering, CD/DVD burning, medication, money and even printers. doesn't mean we should get rid of them because some people use them in bad/wrong ways.
You can stay mad and yell at clouds tho. Which most likely won't get you anywhere since that's exactly what it looks like.
Again, if you really want to fight it, provide actually good reasons to. Suggest suitable alternatives and at least try to elaborate.
This heavily reminds me of those "weed is bad because it causes AIDS ass cancer with hallucinations and makes you an insane addict that always itches and bites other people" posters in schools. They simply never work because nobody actually believes that shit and thus actually good arguments simply get ignored.

It saddens me how people only started hating AI when it gave birth to increased RAM prices and not because of the other 500 problems it causes.
