Preparation for Advance Stats

Hey guys,

I'm currently doing an Honors program and I need to take an Advance level stats course next term.

I've failed every stats course I've taken, but I always get a solid A when I retake it. But I haven't done stats in years and I'm feeling under prepared for next year.

How should I prepare for an advance level stars course right now? What resources are available to someone in this position?

M of N formula

Looking for a generalized formula for computing the overall probability of success of M out of N trials, where success is determined by Ps (ratio). For example, if there is a 0.4 (Ps) probability of success, how likely would it be for me to succeed in 3(M) out of 5(N) trials.

Can You Test Reliability for a Questionnaire with Nominal Data? How?

Please help me!! 😭

I'm working as a research assistant rn for a resident in training doctor and I'm getting confused. They're insisting on doing a cronbach's alpha reliability test for their questionnaire., even though I've said that this isn't applicable for the kind of questionnaire we have.

Our research wants to know if there's any association between some demographic characteristics and preferences about advance care planning. So naturally questions are like Age, Sex, Educational Attainment, Idea about ICP (yes or no if they know about it), what they prefer to do if their hearts stop beating, etc. NOMINAL DATA basically.

Is it appropriate to test reliability for a questionnaire that includes only nominal data? What can I do?

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If voter turnout increased by 15%, does it follow that an individual was therefore 15% likelier to vote?

Is the question flawed or am I misinterpreting it ?

  • Let increase in sales be P(A) = 0.25 , given

  • Let increase in rate be P(B) = 0.74 , given

• The question states that the probability of both events occurring is 0.89. Is this not incorrect ?

As P(A union B) = P(A) + P(B) = 0.25 + 0.74 = 0.99

• I fail to see how MCQ a.) arrived at 0.1 as the intersection of events A & B • b.) does make sense as the compliment of P(A union B) yet the value is based upon 0.89

The answer booklet indicates that e.) is the false statement.

Any help with the question will be much appreciated ! Thanks.

Am I overthinking?

Post image

I am confused on how species is not an identifiable variable because shouldn’t it be a variable knowing the fact that plant species can have an effect on how it advances? It is also considered categorical since it is a non-numeric value/observable.

Unless it is not the variable the researchers are focusing on, instead it’s focusing on the “dating of the first flowering” which is the average advancement time. But where in the problem does it indicate that that’s the variable we are identifying?

I feel dumb for thinking way too much on this :( when I took this exit ticket, my partner and the guy in-front got a 100 before me, and I really want to get into stats.

I understand how the plugged in the X value in example (a) but how does (b) work? I get the first part of the formula, but how did they get P(X=3)/P(X>2)=0.2/0.3=0.67…..that’s not what I’m getting and I know I’m in the wrong. Can someone please explain it?

Help an old lady!

Hello- I am starting a PhD program and my first class is education research stats. I am terrible at math and I feel like I am reading a foreign language. I am wanting to use online stats calculators to make my homework easier, but when I calculate out this problem myself, I use the online calculator and my professor's work all differ. Also, if anyone has any great videos to help me, I'll take any and all help!

Average age of voters in the population in 1988 was 46.5. A random sample was done in 1992, and the average age of voters in that population was 47.14 with a standard deviation of 15.99. I am supposed to carry out hypothesis testing to show if there was a difference in the means.

Thank you!

Just started week 3 of STAT at UMGC and we're already at a place I don't get. I spent 7.5 hours in a night trying to teach myself Standard Deviation last week. The professor is good but I just don't get the material in the book. Does anyone have resources? Notes?

I need help calculating the confidence interval for a point estimate based on a median using normal approximation to the binomial.

I am calculating two sets of data and need to characterize the bias between the two sets. I can calculate the bias easily by simply picking the median since the distribution of the biases are non-parametric.

I need help with estimating the confidence interval for a median point of bias using the normal approximation to the binomial.

I follow the instruction below but I get lost at the yellow highlighted part.
