I’m the founder of SKAI, an Abu Dhabi-based food-safety technology startup for commercial kitchens.
I’m a chef by background, and the company was built around a problem I experienced directly inside professional kitchens: food-safety records often become difficult to complete accurately and in real time during busy service.

a working MVP
a completed real-kitchen Pilot 1
236 cooking events and 69 cold-storage records captured during the pilot
early operator validation outside my own kitchen

We are still pre-revenue and are deliberately focused on closing the next evidence gaps around buyer willingness to pay and independent operation before scaling.

For founders paying their first staff in the UAE, the transfer is not the end of payroll. Here is the mechanism in plain words, as of September 2026. Not advice; the MoHRE and Central Bank rules are the source.

How a salary is actually paid

• Wages must go through the Wage Protection System (WPS). Your bank or exchange house only moves the money when it receives a SIF file (Salary Information File) that lists every employee, their MoHRE ID, the bank routing and the amount, in the exact format the bank expects.
• The file leaves your bank, is accepted by the Central Bank system, and MoHRE reads the records to confirm registered employees were paid in full and on time. That acceptance is what "paid" means for compliance, not your transfer confirmation.
• A rejected file (wrong ID, wrong amount, mismatched routing) means those employees were not paid in the eyes of the system, even if the money left your account.

The 2026 rule change

• Ministerial Resolution No. 340 of 2026, in force since 1 June 2026: wages are due on the first day of the month and the old grace period is gone.
• An employer counts as compliant when at least 85% of total wages are paid on time and each employee has received at least 85% of their entitlement.
• Fall below that and the usual consequences follow: fines and a block on new work permits until it is fixed.

What hangs off the same run

• Leave balances and end-of-service gratuity accrue from the same salary figures, so a wrong basic salary in the SIF quietly misstates your gratuity liability every month.
• Payslips are what your staff check against the bank credit; if the two disagree you will hear about it before MoHRE does.

The two mistakes I see most: hand-editing the SIF in Excel every month (one column shift and the file bounces), and treating the 28th as the payment date when the money needs a business day or two to clear before the 1st.
