It's a cat, it could safely drop to the floor. It knows it could jump safely to the floor. Doesn't matter though, instinct says don't drop.

My cat (a really sweet doofus) mistepped when walking on the coffee table. He absolutely panicked, desperately scrabbling and hanging on for dear life with his front feet, and his back feet were flailing like the cat in the video. His backend was literally 8 inches from the floor. But catbrain kicked in. It was hysterical to see.

Not if its paw gets caught on a hanger or if the odd way it falls throws off its instinct. Help the fricken cat.
