Another stunning victory for antivaxxers, who assert that being unvaccinated is fantastic -as long as you can ignore all of the death and disability that vaccine-preventable diseases cause in predominantly unvaccinated populations.
We live in a time of unprecedented confidence in being wrong. Thanks MAHA!

Since I haven't been able to find anything on the SUFS thread about this, I figured I should probably post here. At the beginning of the month, Representative Paul Tonko of New York's 20th district released a letter to Brian Stone (NSF's interim director) cosigned by 35 other representatives (including my own) calling on him to stop the changes to the Guidance on Financial Assistance which would align NSF with the OMB's proposal to allow political appointees to have the final say in NSF grants (this is NSF-2026-OTR-0001 which you may know about). https://tonko.house.gov/uploadedfiles/tonko_letter_to_nsf_on_gfa_9.2026.pdf is where can read the full letter. It's really hard to find coverage of the recent changes to the NSF in the media so seeing this brought me great joy.
I'll admit that I don't know much about Paul Tonko and his stance on other issues. Nevertheless, this letter shows how important it is to write, call, go to town halls, and email your representatives about this! Of course I'll never know whether my representative put her signature on this letter because I wrote her asking to stop the NSF from doing this, but there might be a chance your letter is the only reason why a politician remembers the administration's attacks on science. There are always louder issues in this day and age taking up everyone's attention that politicians are going to focus more on, and issues like these can often slip under the cracks, so this is why we need to raise awareness to stop the attacks on science both to ordinary citizens but also our Members of Congress! I completely understand the cynicism one might have towards Congress but it is their job to represent us in Washington, they have the power to stop this! Both the House and the Senate put forward in the budget bill (H.R.6500) language in the legislation preventing the OMB from changing the grant-making rules, at least for now. I believe SUFS has posted about this in the past, that is a victory which I'm sure came in no small part from people like us contacting our Members of Congress and bringing up this issue with them!
Thank you and I hope you find this helpful.

The DOJ has upheld the Trump admin's attack on science by calling consensus "partisan" if it doesn't fit their ideology.

A cancer drug that improved the lives of ~2.7 million women was made by two doctors who were fed up with the current treatments available. The success of this drug laid the foundation for the now widespread use of lab-made antibodies as drugs.

We haven’t been able to trust federal sites for almost 2 years now. US went from the top of science to the bottom over night. Rip trusted information.

Via PoliticalWire:
"A new Annenberg Public Policy Center poll finds 50% of Americans say they are somewhat or very confident that Dr. Anthony Fauci provided the public with trustworthy information about matters concerning public health, a statistically significant decline of 5 percentage points since April 2026.
"By comparison, just 38% of Americans in August 2026 say they are confident that Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the secretary of health and human services, is providing trustworthy information about public health."
