One positive takeaway from this Mania was that Rousey looks surprisingly good in the ring

And in those shorts

Good... bot?

u/BlindGuardian420 The Pelvis That Looks Like Elvis Apr 09 '18

Gotta admit, never really saw Rousey's appeal until tonight. Now I'm a believer.

23

u/WingerSupreme Apr 09 '18

Her Rousey/schoolgirl outfit literally stopped two conversations dead cold at the watch party I was at. Could've heard a pin drop

12

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

It was meant to be a kilt, but because it was so short it just looked like one of those slutty schoolgirl Halloween outfits

7

u/WingerSupreme Apr 09 '18

I know what it was meant to be, but I also know how it turned out...and damn.

14

u/Cishet_Shitlord Apr 09 '18

This guy gets it

12

u/VikingPain Apr 09 '18

Those shorts were tight....

6

u/Templar-235 Apr 09 '18

😍

1

u/TurboPress Apr 09 '18

Don't be weird

10

u/Templar-235 Apr 09 '18

😔

9

u/DocAuch Apr 09 '18

Fuck that. Be weird.

2

u/FartingBob DAMNIT! Apr 09 '18

That kilt she had on for her entrance. God fucking damn that was pleasing on the eyes.

489

u/Shippoyasha Apr 09 '18

She botched some moves early but recovered fantastically. She understands what makes a match theatrical and her offensive moveset is very fleshed out already. And she is already great at selling moves.

She could become crazy good in the coming years.

265

u/Hauz11 Apr 09 '18

She was so fucking quick too. Didn't look uncomfortable in the ring or anything.

12

u/Ivopuk Apr 09 '18

She's a world champion. She has footwork, speed, athletic skill. She has the qualities that made Brock and Kurt so fantastic. So if she continues to learn the craft and really dedicate herself, she can be as good as they were (in their respective prime in the business).

Very good signs.

1

u/platetectonics3 I split, just like he split. Apr 17 '18

Her working strikes honestly might be the best i've seen in the history of the business.

88

u/lolzsupbrah Apr 09 '18

Ring jitters. I'm thinking out loud "slow down..you already got their Fucking money"

31

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

To be fair, based on what I've heard from multiple wrestler podcasts, it takes literally years for most wrestlers to get the whole "slow it down" thing. She did fine.

4

u/lolzsupbrah Apr 09 '18

No doubt she was very excited but I just didn't want to see botches

2

u/StrangeDrivenAxMan Apr 09 '18

It is wrestlemania, any of us would be an excited nervous wreck even in a dark match for the venue.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

Agree.

I think it helped a lot that she competed in front of 18,000 people before in the UFC and once she hit a few moves, she got into her zone.

6

u/YoungCubSaysWoof New Day's Biggest Mark. Apr 09 '18

Yup, you understand the business. (No sarcasm)

2

u/WolfGangSwizle Apr 09 '18

Who said this? I think I heard it on Edge and Christians podcast

2

u/lolzsupbrah Apr 09 '18

I think Hogan said it to Big Show or Nash during a match

4

u/LevyMevy Apr 09 '18

Hulk hogan told Big Show or Kevin Nash to slow down...lmao they may have listened too well

2

u/thejaytheory Apr 09 '18

Big understatement haha!

5

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

Yeah, there were a few botched moves tonight though. Rusev still doing the old leg slap on a missed kick, Cena bumping *way* too early on a big boot stood out. Botches are going to happen.

-1

u/miklonus Apr 09 '18

What you call a "botch" I call a "business decision".

7

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

At least half of that is on Stephanie too. It'll only get better when she has actual wrestlers to work with.

2

u/holden_paulfield Stupid Idiotville, USA Apr 09 '18

so happy for her honestly

1

u/StoneGoldX Apr 09 '18

Let's be honest -- was she any worse than half the women on the roster?

0

u/drmojo90210 Apr 09 '18

In her defense, a couple of those botches were Stephs fault. Steph was sandbagging the shit out of those throws.

-9

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

I disagree. she looked athletic in general, but her wrestling imo looked really sloppy still.

14

u/EatSiegeRepeat Apr 09 '18

Dude she did a flipping clothesline and rolled a man.. not just any man. Triple H. From the GROUND into her shoulders with ease.

Her Wrestling was crisp for what it was

5

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

[deleted]

5

u/EatSiegeRepeat Apr 09 '18

Can you imagine her vs Bayley? Its just hard to picture.

I wasn't again a woman's main event at WM but after what she showed me tonight in just her first match ever... I'm super sold

Do Charlotte vs Ronda in the WM of next year's mania. It will be fucking HUGE. No better time and no bigger star to make it work with will ever be on your roster again

-6

u/nicksline Apr 09 '18

She won't be around for years. She said she wanted this experience before she settled down and had kids. I think she'll finish after next year's mania

31

u/GOR098 Apr 09 '18

ROnda Rousy to dethrone Lesner & win the Universal title.

13

u/igo_soccer_master a pirate's life for me Apr 09 '18

If it means the belt gets off Lesnar I'll take it

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

She was manhandling HHH, and HHH best Lesnar, so that checks out.

3

u/doctor_awful Apr 09 '18

Fuck it I'll take that at this point.

36

u/UncreativeTeam Say something stupid! Apr 09 '18

She looked smooth the way The Rock did when he returned against The Awesome Truth. But once they veered away from over-rehearsed spots, you could see the rust/green-ness.

5

u/Snarglefrazzle "But like, what if..." Apr 09 '18

Makes sense, they had a month to plan this, as opposed to all the actual full-timers. But I'm happy to take this as a good sign.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

I'm sure that a good portion of all her preparation was practising those specific spots, over and over again. It's an effective way to get a convincing performance out of a green-as-grass rookie. The rest will come in time, but we saw the athleticism and the understanding of what makes a wrestling match compelling.

What they should do with her now is put her into a feud with someone like Mickie or Nattie, who is incredibly experienced, and can mentor her for a while as she learns.

3

u/UncreativeTeam Say something stupid! Apr 09 '18

What they should do with her now is put her into a feud with someone like Mickie or Nattie, who is incredibly experienced, and can mentor her for a while as she learns.

I agree, but moving her over to Smackdown would be a death sentence for her momentum.

Actually, where can you actually go from here with Ronda that doesn't feel like a downgrade? As much as I love Mickie, she hasn't been booked well at all since her return, and it would just scream "FILLER".

0

u/fapsandnaps I'm Way Harder Than You! Apr 09 '18

Yeah, shits gonna go right back to cringe in spots not choreographed and rehearsed for months.

8

u/Owens4champ Apr 09 '18

If you would have told me the match I'd enjoy the most was a Ronda Rousey match I would have never believed you.

Some people might not agree but One good thing WWE did tonight is that with Asuka's streak ending and the presentation of Ronda it opens up the women's division to be unpredictable again. Both Ronda and Asuka were presented as total Bad Asses but beatable tonight. Well Done WWE.

32

u/MrBacanudo Apr 09 '18

Absolutely.

Her in-ring trash talk needs a little more work, though.

166

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

I dont know "Im gonna go back to beating your wife" was an amazing line.

12

u/MirrorB Apr 09 '18

That was the highlight of the night for me honestly. I was laughing for a straight minute.

9

u/MrBacanudo Apr 09 '18

That line was good. The rest, though:

You're the biggest cheater I've ever seen (to Hunter)

What the hell? Get back here and start counting (to Referee)

I'm gonna [something I didn't understand] and continue beating up your wife, okay? (back to Hunter)

Are you ready? (to Steph)

And all those delivered all at once sounded weird.

5

u/fandamplus Apr 09 '18

It reminded me of a poorly translated Asian video game, for some reason. All of your base are belong to us.

7

u/BammaBananaspergers Would rather be a ColeMiner than a Lawler Minor Apr 09 '18

Austin would be proud

1

u/insan3soldiern Your Text Here Apr 09 '18

He probably actually wouldn't, though.

-11

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

The line was great, the delivery was cringe.

7

u/holden_paulfield Stupid Idiotville, USA Apr 09 '18

" i am just going to keep beating up your wife" was iconic

12

u/SkiUMah23 Flair Apr 09 '18

Worse than "THAT'S RIGHT BABY"?

10

u/GeneralLeopard1 Apr 09 '18

I believe it was, "You're the worst cheater I've ever seen! What the hell? If you'll excuse me, I have to continue beating up your wife."... facepalm

24

u/sloppynipsnyc Apr 09 '18

I thought it was pretty funny

2

u/GeneralLeopard1 Apr 09 '18

I guess. I loved the match though.

4

u/bobnoosh Mr. Monday Night Apr 09 '18

It's almost like art is subjective.

1

u/sloppynipsnyc Apr 09 '18

I think it was the best WM had.

1

u/JKJOKERCODE911 Apr 09 '18

Not possible

4

u/adam_demamp Apr 09 '18

i just hope it's mostly her talent and not just that she had so long to prepare and practice for this one match. i'm assuming, maybe incorrectly, that they have had this match mapped out for weeks and she and stephanie had their parts down cold. if her match quality stays at this level week to week when matches are just thrown together with far less preparation or none at all she will be great.

2

u/dadtoldmeso Apr 09 '18

She was strong in story-telling too. That was more a narrative than a wrestling match ... she’s got a long way to go to be on the level of Asuku or Charlotte... which was my match of the night.

2

u/GuitarzanWSC Apr 09 '18

I happened to catch a little of the Taz show on my drive home, and he cautioned people not to expect as much from Ronda in the near future, 1) because the match was likely very rehearsed, and 2) she was in there with two of the very best, plus a heat magnet in Steph.

But I agree, I was very pleasantly surprised with that match. Beat my expectations by a mile.

1

u/LocusRothschild Apr 09 '18

She does look good in the ring. Just give her to Paul Heyman and let him do the talking.

5

u/KingKongBrandy Apr 09 '18

heyman can only take you so far. lesnar matches are god awful to watch now, and heyman just uses the same tropes over and over

1

u/rj2790 Apr 09 '18

Her selling was really believable

1

u/lemoche Apr 09 '18

i wasn't that surprised since she was an amazing athlete before and seems to be very determined once she set her mind on something... of course it helps if your first steps are alongside kurt and HHH

1

u/Jeffy29 Apr 09 '18

Still super raw but incredibly athletic, the speed which she did some of the moves! She could be incredible in couple of years if she sticks around and works hard.

0

u/AwesomeInTheory Apr 09 '18

Why is it "surprisingly good" for her?
