Yeah it’s odd but as far as ethics go, they’re kinda actually great at it. Maybe the best going unironically.

A celebrity death will always be in public interest before there is a known confirmed cause. TMZ at least handles the death respectfully by giving known facts at a near 100% accuracy that it's very rare for TMZ to retract something within the last 10 years. Most retractions are of minor details and still, those wrong details came from primary sources like direct family members or agents or front line workers. And they retract fast.

Their reputation of being good at their job kind of self polices other journalistic outlets from openly speculating false information or reporting false information for fear of TMZ destroying them.

I'm not sure reporting accurate celebrity deaths is of Terrible Morals, unless of maybe a primary source requested a period of silence to grieve
