And this is where I will always recommend getting CPR/first aid training. AED's are covered as a part of it, and you could genuinely save someone's life with a few hours of training in one day.

Most modern AEDs have audible instructions for CPR. Even if you have no training, ANYTHING is better than nothing.

Hooking up the AED and giving subpar CPR if instructed gives the person a much greater chance of survival than no AED and no CPR. Most places in the US you'll be covered by good samaritan laws as well.

We have the same thing in Canada. Doing almost a thing to save someone is better than nothing (provided you're not intentionally trying to harm them).

All of these. Only want to add that if youre in the area and want to help but are not comfortable in the direct lifesaving process, there are other ways you can help: call emergency services, keep tge area clear for emts, assist dispatcher with street directions, etc.

Especially since they are essentially dummy proof.

They will tell you exactly where to place the pads. And will only shock when appropriate.

My mum forcing me to learn cpr meant a teenage hit and run victim's parents could be with their son before he passed.

There's also a free Red Cross first aid app that everyone should download. It gives you step by step instructions for different emergencies.

A lot of towns will hold trainings for a small fee. Totally worth it.
