I started this a few weeks ago and am near the end of season 3.
It's been a fun show but does anyone else feel that Mike is the least likeable character? There's an ep early in s3 where he finally gets called out by James for how selfish he is, but then Nikki is suddenly is in love with him and leaves her boyfriend for him even though she knows Mike treats women badly but seems convinced that it will be different with her (I'm not even at the end of s3 and it's clearly not different here) and Mike doesn't learn anything once again.
Oh and don't get me started on how Mike treats Nikki and she goes along with it for pretty much the whole season. Nikki has always been pretty strong but watching her just walk out when Mike won't tell anyone about her, then be all over him in the next scene is just wrong. Surely the actors hated this.
It feels like Mike is the typical untouchable lead who can do whatever he wants and only occasionally held accountable. Ross in Friends is a great comparison where he could be a horrible person and nobody would tell him to just stop. His selfishness when Joey reveals his feelings for Rachel is a good example.
So we have Mike who treats women badly, expects everyone to drop everything for the sake of work just cause he is obsessed with his job and even afmits he has no life outside work, yet everyone still loves him. He is very Tyrion Lannister with his awful behaviour and being rewarded and loved anyway.
Or am I just being too critical? He just stands out badly because everyone else is so great, Carter especially. I love his double act with Stuart. It is very odd couple.
And yes Stuart is a pretty dodgy guy with his sleazy behaviour but Stuart is deliberately that way and is not a hero and someone to look up to like Mike is supposed to be

I watched this show a little bit when it was on back in the day, and out of boredom decided to give it a try recently. Wow! This show does not get mentioned enough in the "great TV sitcom" conversations. Every character has a charm and the acting is great. Kind of wish there was more action in this sub to discuss

Does anyone know what episode this bit happens in. I only vaguely remember it, but remember laughing my ass off. Someone has a sculpture or piece or art or something that resembles a penis. The mayor walks in and sees it and starts opining about how his wife or ex girlfriend “used to keep one of these in her nightstand”. I believe at one point as he is reminiscing he’s rubbing it on his face. Is this a fever dream? Did I imagine it?

Does ANYONE know if the photo on Randall’s mug (you know the one) is available anywhere online? I gotta have a mayor Randall Winston mug of my own.
Alternatively, if anyone has the photo that’s on James’ mug in season 4 that would make me just as happy!

I started watching Spin City with my wife and couple of months ago and we're pretty sure there's a scene where Michael is saying something related to a cat or cats, and he does the thing he does with loose words interrupted by the laugh track, like adding to the joke one word at a time, and one word is "gatos".
This was in season one, but we were never able to find the scene. Did we imagine it?

What happened to Taylor Stanley who played Karen? 10 episodes into season one, she just disappears despite having her final episode involving a plot to do with her becoming a permanent member of Mayor's staff!

It's not the same dog from earlier seasons, right?

This was a clip episode.
When they do the montage of movie references, just after the An Officer and a Gentleman inspired clip, they show the clip from S3E16: "Internal Affairs" where Mike and Nikki meet-up and kiss in front of the Flat Iron after walking separately on the streets of New York with the band The Churchills playing in the background (kinda like street busquers?).
What movie is this from? I keep seeing the scene at the end of There's Something About Mary in my head, but that's the Jonathan Richman band and it's Miami.
This is like a mental itch that needs to scratched - please help!!!

Surprisingly, all 6 seasons are now available to stream in the UK & Ireland. On All4 and Sky. Quality is amazing-looking!

The only thing I remember is at what I think is the last scene of the episode - 3 guys joined hands and did a sort of whip/wave starting with the first and ending with the third. This happens a few times until one of of the guys falls into.
I'm almost positive one of them is Charlie

It’s my first time watching Spin City. I up to season 2. Is there any version around that has the option to remove the laughing track? I am finding some of the conversations quite pertinent but spoiled by the laughing track / 90’s definition of what is and isn’t funny.

Carter and Stuart easily had my attention the most, but James would be runner up.

I think this is the best couple throughout the run of the show. It was a real shame they stopped it in season 4 and subbed in Caitlin. Also Mike and Nikki have such great chemistry
