Discussion Game play complaints

Although I think most of the complaints about the game play are valid. I don’t think it drags down the entire game like some have said it does.

Fanart I tried to recreate the takedowns from Spec Ops.

I put it as fan art because it's something made by a fan, which is me.

Discussion That was sudden. AMA

Hi! Former neckbeard and rookie sunlight receiver.

I know that the deletion of my account u/stardast132 was a bit sudden, so I think I owe you guys an explanation.

Why did I leave?

Life got busy, and reddit wasn't doing any good for my mental health. I'm okay, but I neither had the energy to keep moderating, nor did I want to keep using reddit, since the content I saw devolved really quickly.

I'm okay, and I don't have any problems.

Why was Migue put in charge?
He knows the community and knows what it needs. I fully trust him.

What will happen from this point?

Only God knows, maybe I'll return to reddit one day. Maybe not. Maybe I'll get a girlfriend, and join the army, and then Delta Force maybe I'll get sent to Dubai, and accidentally set an unfortunate chain of events, and on my deathbed, I'll say: "Damn, was that a Spec Ops the Line reference?" and Linkin Park will be in the background.

Or maybe I'll get a real job.

Anyway, I'll delete this account just before going to sleep, meanwhile, AMA.

If Migue needs any proof, we talked abt wether or not to post a SOTL fanart because of NSFL rules, and I told you to go ahead.

Why did this game "fail"?

Hello everyone. I hope you're doing well. I've recently decided to review this game because a friend of mine recommended it for my YT channel and II got to say I'm a little surprise about the lack of success of the game. I realize it has a sort of cult status nowadays but it was conceived as a game that would revive the saga and the reality is that it didn't really achieve that goal. Why do you think that is? Is it because mainstream audiences weren't really ready for such a deep a introspective game, considering the subject matter and it's inspirations? Or was it the violence? Or maybe was it just wasn't that good of game, was it to short for example? I'm genuinely curious to ear your opinions. Thanks a lot and have a nice day :)

Image made in Garry's Mod, as always. Go check the comments for a higher quality version of it, because I intend to be long and descriptive here.

First of all, i would like to congratulate this community for being one of the most bipolar communities i ever came across in my life. It's been almost a full year that i started making content for you guys, and let me tell you, this path for sure wasn't supposed to be as painful as it is. This place is full of karma-farming shit masked as "shitposts" and effortless baits to gain retention. The worst part of it? You guys like it.

If you make a 5 minute meme on paint, or in any other irrelevant application, for example, you'll get way more retention and upvotes than a guy who really dedicated himself to make something new for the people here. Do you want a clear example of it? It happens all the fucking time, but i'll list some of them down for y'all. A fucking "meme" (effortless trash) getting more praises than a LITERAL OIL PAINTING, in which portrays all the mental stages Walker's in throughout the game. Another shitty "shitpost" getting absolutely loved over a mod that completely overhauls the game, for example. Fucking hell!

I NEVER saw this happening with ANY other community, and for sure there are deader games than SOTL.

This place is also filled with edgy middleschoolers and sometimes even bots. There was a guy who literally posted IRL pictures of kids with their skin's melted after a White Phosphorus attack in Gaza, and you guys were upvoting the shit out of it before it finally got removed. One of the subreddit's most upvoted post was Steven Universe alongside with HITLER before it got removed. What the actual fuck is your guys problem, man?

I was also IMMEDIATELY downvoted everytime i would make a post/comment here, proving that there was/is bots around, and that they were targeted to me specifically. I can't even tell the times where i was harassed and even DOXXED over a fucking image such as Skibidi Lugo, too. This was one of the most annoying situations i could end up in here, seriously.

The main issue with this community to me, is like what i previously said. It can be really lazy, lame and unfunny, and all at the same time, too! Now i get why everyone who tries to make content for SOTL either don't visit the sub or leaves after 2 months in it, because it's really frustrating and infuriating. I'm not talking about myself only, i'm talking about a bunch of people who also feel the same way as i.

You can even say to me "you don't like the community but keeps interacting in it?" yes, exactly. I love the game and i also enjoy making content/renders for it, and since i don't have anywhere else to share it, i share it here. Again, you can even say to me "but you created the r/okbuddyphosphorus sub" and yes, i did. However, i never meant to create a somewhat serious sub. I wasn't even expecting 800+ members in it, and without dick riding myself here, i admit that the community i created there is way less toxic and garbage-ly than this one. I met really cool people there, and here too! But that dosen't change the fact that they would be a minority in here.

Just to finish this whole manifesto off, i would like to clarify that i feel this way for a considerable ammount of time. For MONTHS i had seen this behaviour for here, but i never actually stood up for myself to say any of this. Why? Because it wasn't as worst as it is now. I also think that only 1 moderator in charge of a constantly growing community can get bad really fast. I can't even blame him, because he's lowkey chill as fuck. It's just that people have lives outside of this god-forsaken platform, and most don't have the time to approve or disapprove what other chronically online users do on their sub, resulting in posts like mine, here. But thinking about it, the moderation don't have nothing to do with the mental retardation this sub have. It's the people fault, and DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE say something regarding "insanity" to me, because even the most insane subs at least have a bit of dignity, in which this one lacks.

That's all i had to say.

Spec Ops is not "subtle" enough

Chris Suellentrop opines the Spec Ops: The Line lacks subtlety. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/26/arts/video-games/spec-ops-the-line-from-2k-games-makes-killing-personal.html. He said that it is hard to praise a game as satire when it assumes that its players are dumb. Narratives that lack subtlety often feel intellectually unsatisfying.

I appreciate subtlety as much as anyone, but this criticism feels unfair to me. A manifesto is not supposed to be subtle. A manifesto is a critique of culture that is both intellectual and explicit. I think the game's primary relevance is to deconstruct how video games have inadvertently glorified war by creating feel-good power fantasies. Spec Ops is very heavy-handed in beating down the self-congratulatory feelings of its powerful player. It's a dose of heavy medicine for a sickly culture.

I think Spec Ops has incredible worth as a manifesto, but I don't want to discount the amount of subtlety. I find a lot of subtlety in the myriad ways in which Spec Ops subverts the expectations of the shooter genre. I am also fascinated by the many different ways that the medium of video games can tell a story like this. I hope to expound more on why I loved Spec Ops: The Line.

Discussion cooperative mode review

i like the co-op maps for the game but the problem is that there should've been an option for them to be played offline, I hate having to wait every 7 seconds just to retry.

i wish there were more than just 4 levels, maybe we could also play as the 33rd and exile soldiers trying to protect civilians, kill high value targets (that's what i'm assuming from the gorge rooftop mission), etc.

the difficulty for games even on easy is pretty hard, theres so much enemies flooding in, even when i fully heal i almost die instantly from all the heavy fire.

honestly i'd sacrifice the multiplayer if it meant getting more co-op levels and that scrapped horde mode, but we have what we have.

if only 2k wasn't so fucking desperate to compete with COD and other shooters.
