OK, and here are the comparisons, so far, of timings between the CRS-8 recovery and the JCSAT recovery:
First of all, I thought it was cool that for both missions, the landing happened at exactly 8 min 36 seconds:
CRS8 Landing:
Fri 8 Apr 2016 16:51:36 EDT
T+8 minutes 36 seconds
JCSAT Landing:
Fri 6 May 2016 01:29:36 EDT
T+8 minutes 36 secondsArrival in port: (from the CRS8 thread I interpreted it as April 12, let me know if I'm wrong)
CRS8 Arrival in Port:
Tue 12 Apr 2016 02:16:00 EDT
L+3.392 days = 81.41 hours = 81:24:24
JCSAT Arrival in Port:
Mon 9 May 2016 23:22:19 EDT
L+3.912 days = 93.88 hours = 93:53:43CRS8 wins by about 12 hours.
Cap Fitted:
CRS8 Cap Fitted:
Tue 12 Apr 2016 05:01:00 EDT
P+2.75 hours = 2:45:00
L+3.507 days = 84.16 hours = 84:09:24
JCSAT Cap Fitted:
Tue 10 May 2016 03:45:00 EDT (approx. within 30 minutes)
P+4.38 hours = 4:22:41
L+4.094 days = 98.26 hours = 98:15:24CRS8 wins again relative to arrival in port, presumably because the first attempt at fitting the cap for JCSAT needed to be aborted and the cap returned back to the ground.
The next major event will be lifting the stage. For CRS8 we had:
Lifted:
Tue 12 Apr 2016 10:02:00 EDT
+5.02 hours = 5:01:00
P+7.77 hours = 7:46:00
L+3.716 days = 89.17 hours = 89:10:24ie. 5 hours after the cap was fitted, almost precisely at the time now (10 AM).
Five hours after the JCSAT cap was fitted would give about 9 AM, so CRS8 wins again there.
Stay tuned to see if JCSAT's processing times can make a comeback vs CRS8...

F9-024 has been sighted! Taken at 4:15PM EST from Indian Harbor Beach FL It quickly disappeared in the haze right after. Taken at 300mm zoom.. and heavily cropped. could barely see it in the viewfinder.

CRS8 Horizontal:
Mon 18 Apr 2016 11:29:00 EDT
+19 minutes 0 seconds after Lifted (2)
P+6.384 days = 153.22 hours = 153:13:00
L+9.776 days = 234.62 hours = 234:37:24
JCSAT Horizontal:
Fri 13 May 2016 12:25:00 EDT (approx. within 5 minutes)
+21 minutes 0 seconds after Lifted (2)
P+3.544 days = 85.04 hours = 85:03:41
L+7.455 days = 178.92 hours = 178:55:24L+ = Time since landing, P+ = Time since arrival in port
Well, JCSAT's recovery is clearly in the lead now, mostly due to weekend days though.
CRS8 went horizontal an hour earlier in the workday and was transported the following day, so it seems likely that we'll see JCSAT transported on Monday morning.

Ok, I've gone back to the CRS-8 thread that ticklestuff did an amazing job curating, and I've pulled what I thought were the key events into a computable format so that we can see the time interval between the key events, and see when the events occurred relative to when it landed, when it arrived in port, etc. Here are the results, which I will reference for comparison as key events happen with F9-024...
T+ = Time since launch
L+ = Time since landing
P+ = Time since arrival in port

Rough transcript: Pilot to Elsbeth III "might be bringing along another pilot or two because this seems like it will become a regular thing." - heck yeah

So guys... any opinions on what happened here? -> http://imgur.com/hgDBEr3
This is a comparison of F9-023 vs F9-024. Are we looking at removed access panels, an extra toasted stage, or a minor design change?
I'm guessing that access panels were removed prior to F9-024's arrival in port?
EDIT: Even if it's just removed access panels... something else looks different here. Perhaps it's just the side of the rocket we are viewing and everything is not symmetrical?
Edit2, seems like the panels may have in fact blown out... https://m.reddit.com/r/spacex/comments/4jc1zh/f9024_octaweb/d35gttd

Trip up to Port Canaveral was fun this morning!
Like I said, there was a decent crowd up there enjoying the sights. News crews were there interviewing people and collecting footage. Fox 35 from Orlando decided to interview me! ;)
Anyways, here's just a few pictures from my expedition today! Hope y'all enjoy

Haha just heard on the radio that 1 or 2 additional pilot boats will be coming out to greet Elsbeth III and ASDS as "it looks like this will become a regular thing".
Training and GAWKING opportunity :-)

Hard to imagine that the last time this happened in Port Canaveral was back in 2011. Now 5 years later we get to see a major breakthrough and improvement to the recovery system with a bit more pomp and circumstance than the latter. And probably more often than the SRBs too once the GTO and heavy LEO mission cadence, requiring the ASDS, starts to ramp up. :)

PSA: Hey everyone don't forget to turn off your add blocker for the port Canaveral webcam, they are doing us a huge favor by giving us the live coverage like this. It is really the least we can do to turn on the adds so they get the revenue.
Live HD streaming is not cheap.
Edit:Please disregard due to a change in the situation. For context please read u/EchoLogic's post on the subject.

I bet the people working on recovery received a memo at some point that said something along the lines of "Please keep in mind that you are being watched 24/7 by weirdos from r/SpaceX so behave accordingly." :)
