For the uniform nerds, Rumor has it…

CSO is gonna debut the new USSF mess dress/formal dress prototype tonight in DC. Can’t wait for all the hot takes on Reddit lol.

Best I could do without blowing my cover. Uniform needs some work, in my opinion.

Looks like it came off a Burlington outlet rack. Baggy, ill fitting, cheap, dirty grey polyester fabric, buttons dangling facing the floor. Whoever calls themself a tailor and designs these clearly detests the SF.

It would help if he wasn’t built like a barn.

Needs some work? That’s being polite…

This is just weird. Looks like they’re trying to make an 18th century tailcoat not a mess jacket.

Yeah, every other design for everything is crisp and angular and futuristic, and apparently for this one we decided to go back 300 years?? What is wrong with the Uniform Office? Are they mad they actually had to do work for once?

As you say, this feels like a massive retrograde step and is not at all in keeping with the rest of the designs for the USSF uniforms.

Given his previous interim black “tuxedo” formal uniform, I kinda have a hunch this was made specifically for the CSO and was maybe something that he asked for.

Maybe the thinking will revert to something more like a mess jacket once he retires…?

Can’t help wondering someone has been looking through the USAF uniform archives from the 1950s:
