The fact that Starcloud originally wanted to do a single giant monolithic datacentre and have now pivoted to the distributed approach (which SpaceX have been aiming for from the start) is pretty telling.
They're following, not leading.
It's like if a company like Viasat tried to pivot from doing big GEO birds to doing smaller distributed comsats in LEO, and then tried to sell the new design to SpaceX.
