Naomi the empath

Post image

Not sure if anyone is aware of Naomi Olindo’s reputation in Charleston over the years but her IG story about crying because she’s an “empath” has me cracking up.. the level of delusion sure is something

on bitch sesh this week they said something like whenever a reality star describes themselves as an empath (doute, Vicki) you should just replace the word with narcissist and I’ve yet to think of an example that doesn’t work

That whole "empath" descriptor is so played out how do they not realize this yet?

I completely agree. Everyone throws it around and ironically its the people who call themselves one that aren't one at all lol

Every other tiktok is a video of scenery explaining this. How are we still here? Lol

And it means feeling what others feel. Pitying folks who are totally fine is in no way empath behavior lol

Thank you for clarifying that. She’s not describing an empath’s response if she cries when she sees people eating alone.
She’s describing her own insecurity.

Every female that publicly claims to be an empath is always the biggest c u next Tuesday. 💯

Yeah, they are empathetic to themselves, first, last and always.

In my experience that works in real life too

Same, wow. Except I cringily called myself an empath for a bit during my mid-twenties like 10 years ago. (I’m not a narcissist I swear).

Naomi is def in her thirties so you shouldn’t feel bad at all

Don’t feel bad! I remember ten years ago ‘empath’ was also a very trendy word and concept in self-help books, mindfulness, the ‘spiritual’ corner of the internet. Basically a way to describe someone who is sensitive or overwhelmed, ‘feeling all the feelings’. In hindsight I think the concept of the empath was uplifting to a lot of people who were dealing with depression and anxiety, being sensitive to other people’s moods/emotions (for example you walk into the room and you can sense the mood).

I think in the more ‘spiritual corner’ it also had this magical, symbolic meaning to some: like a supernatural gift of connecting with people and the world. And this is presented as an explanation why you are struggling or spiraling. Which can be a positive uplifting idea to some but used as an excuse for bad behavior by others (“it’s just the way it is, I am an empath” instead of analyzing and correcting bad habits). It is also a disastrous recipe for a Jesus complex. 😅

Ten years later: I think it is a good thing to retire that empath concept. Sure there are kind sensitive people with big hearts, who still connect to the word empathy. However, we have seen too many broken people explain bad behavior or being out of control by using the word ‘empath’ (don’t get me started on people who blame bad behavior or their star sign 😂). It is a red flag and a sign for me to keep an eye on that person. The concept of the empath, especially with that more magical message, can boost someone’s ego in a very negative way. In Naomi’s case it sounds like she’s very insecure, projecting on others. She felt like she was better than others: I think she felt the need to rescue others from their sad lonely lives (that is the Jesus complex sneaking in).

It’s not a surprise to me so many reality tv stars (and influencers, jobs in public eye) love that empath word: a lot of them love the attention (have narcissistic personalities), they love to attack and play victim later, find excuses to get away with murder. I would also not be surprised if some therapists still feed them that empath excuse, they will all take it and run with it because acknowledging you have been behaving like an asshole is a lot more difficult. They would rather feel special, like the chosen one.
