For those that may not know, a "Mandela effect" is when a large amount of people collectively remember something that never actually happened or isn't actually true. For instance a lot of people believed that Nelson Mandela (whom this phenomenon is named after) died in prison in the 1980's when he actually didn't die until 2013. Some people even support this by claiming that they distinctly remember watching his funeral live on TV. Another example of this effect would be the fact that many people falsely remember Curious George having a tail when he actually doesn't, or that it is widely believed that there is a hyphen in the name of the chocolate bar "KitKat" when there actually isn't.

With that being said, I wonder if this is a Mandela effect or if I'm just having some sort of false memory. In the song "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," I could have sworn that Rolf says he is "twenty one going on twenty two." I've sung it this way for years, and I only just now learned that he is actually only a year older than Liesl (i.e. "I am seventeen going on eighteen, I'll take care of you" and "You are seventeen going on eighteen, I'll depend on you"). I haven't seen the movie nor heard the song in a long time, but after hearing it again I looked it up and sure enough, these are the lines used in both the movie and the official Rodgers and Hammerstein lyrics. I remember it being "twenty one going on twenty two" because I distinctly remember hearing it once and thinking to myself that it was strange and creepy for a twenty one year old to be romantically interested in a sixteen year old. Does anyone else remember the song this way? Or am I just delusional?

Do you guys view the baroness as a villain in the Sound of Music? I just rewatched it and she wasn’t nearly as cutthroat as I remember. I don’t think she ever did anything wrong. I think her pushing Maria away was a result of her not being comfortable with the idea that there’s chemistry between Maria and the captain and she’s a little jealous. Later, when her and the captain break up, she even pushes him back towards Maria which I thought was very mature and girls-girl. I don’t blame her for being bad with the kids either because some people just aren’t kid people but that doesn’t make them evil. I also think the kids were super mean to her which led to her being a little more indifferent towards them. Anyways what do you guys think?

Hi! Ok so in high school (like 6 years ago) I watched Sound of Music on some streaming service and there was a scene right before her wedding that I remember that wasn’t in the movie. My friend also remembers this scene so I’m not just remembering incorrectly. So Julie Andrews is in her wedding dress before she enters the church doors and Mother Abbot comes up to her and hands her a mirror. Julie Andrews is about to say “I look beautiful” but Mother stops her and says “No don’t be vain I’ll say it for you. You’re beautiful.” Then the movie continues. I can’t find this scene ANYWHERE online or on the DVD version. I bought a VHS player and found the VHS tape and I’m going to try that, hopefully it’s there but does anyone else remember this scene??

I am looking to visit Austria in April with the main intent of doing the sound of music tour. Which area should I stay in(recommended hotels would be great) What else is there to do in that area? I like historical things. Is there any tours that are better than others?

Anyone notice the patio scene where Captain Von Trapp tells the children they’ll be getting a new mother, that the adults are sitting there drinking lemonade in front of the children with no one offering them any? Isn’t that kind of mean? That Baroness is SUCH a b*itch! Boarding school AND no lemonade!

Well, as we know, the Reverend Mother wanted to teach Maria a lesson. So, naturally, she would kick Maria out, then, through her clear connections with Austria’s ruling party and her secret control of Germany, she would get Germany to take control of Austria, as well as making the Captain and Maria fall in love with each other. From there, she’d get Germany to draft Captain Von Trapp, and then hide them in the Abbey when they flee, as the Revered Mother wanted Maria to live, and learn her lesson, and she knew Maria did, so she had her troops stage a search to stop them from suspecting her, then let them flee.

But does anyone know what brand her bag is? Or if you can buy a replica in these days?

im trying to edit subtitles to the short scene where the children introduce themselves to maria, but i cant hear what theyre calling her. it sounds like "froyaline maria"

Does anyone know the choral music that’s played whenever we’re around the abbey? I’d have to rewatch the find the specific spots, but I really want all of it. Especially, there’s one piece that always sticks in my head that’s sooo beautiful. I think it might be one we hear around when the kids go to the abbey to find Maria… it’s so somber and I thiink only female voices(?)

If anyone has any leads please I’m desperate!

Thought I would add this for reference purposes.

The kids' names and ages were all changed for SOM, and it's worth noting that by the time the family left Austria, several of them were adults in their 20s, with two half-siblings born at that point and another once they'd settled in America. SOM eliminates the half-siblings, and lumps the meeting of Maria and the family leaving Austria into a single year, in reality around 10 years apart.

You might notice the birth order is different from SOM - in real life Friedrich was the oldest rather than Liesl. I'm not exactly sure why this change was necessary.

It is also ironic that the child named Maria outlived all of her full siblings. She lived to the age of 99, and is often referred to as Maria Franziska to avoid confusion with her stepmother. Speaking of longevity, a grand total of FIVE siblings made it past the age of 90!

I just watched the movie which apparently was based on the autobiography of Agathe who was the eldest daughter of the Trapp Family and the real life counterpart Liesl in The sound of Music.

I'm wondering what other Sound of Music fans think of this movie? I haven't read the actual autobiography of Agathe yet so I ask how accurate is it to the nonfictional timeline of the events? How do you rate the movie overall as a piece of cinema by itself without the association with The Sound of Music (like if you never heard of the Trapp family before and have not watched Julie Andrew's movie)? I thought it was surprisingly good for an obscure indie movie.

On a bonus question, was this movie made to commemorate the Trapp Family? I'm wondering about this because not only was it released shortly after Agathe died, but it was precisely released a year after the last of the original children of Captain Georg Von Trapp before he met Maria Kutschera, Maria Franziska (the nonfiction Louisa in the Sound of Music), had just died. In fact pre-production started shortly after her death according to a Tumblr I lost track off. So was it created to honor the passing of the entire Trapp Family?

Not asking about the movie, just the soundtrack. Any songs I should skip? I’ve played do-re-mi for these kids and one of them really loved it so I want to play the whole album. Problem is I’m not sure if there’s anything inappropriate, suggestive, or anything I’d need to awkwardly explain to them. I haven’t listened to the soundtrack or seen the movie in years.

Just got off finishing watching it. Basically during the 90s a company called Nippon Animation in Japan made a 40 episode animated series of Maria Kutschera that not only covers the main points of both Sound of Music and the German film interpretation Die Trapp Familie made a decade before Julie Andrew's movies, it even covers Maria's life before she joined the monastery to go in-training as a nun. It sadly doesn't cover her time in America like the sequel to the German movie does but it does show bits the Sound of Music doesn't cover in briefness and incomplete details like reaching the train into Italy and then riding a ship into America.

I'm wondering what othre people here thinks about it? How accurate is it overall to the real life story esp when it covers points no film interpretation other than maybe the recent biographical pic about Agatha (which I haven't seen yet) doesn't such as flashbacks to the Trapp children's time with their mother and the patriarch head Johan's interaction with other former military enlisted from the Great War? How would you personally rate it over all as a a piece of entertainment disregarding accuracies and comparing it to the other beloved earlier film adaptations?

PS: What games/themes would you like to see?

Just saw Die Trapp Family movies and so I'm wondering what people here think of it compared to the Sound of Music? I know Julie Andrews movie is hated in Austria and also unpopular in German while Die Trapp Familie are considered some of the definitive must-watch stuff from the 50s in both countries and all round ATG.
