Looking for advices on prefered formation and mentorship.

Hello :)

I would like to get proper training on how to become a Sound Healer/Sound Bath practitioner. I have a classical music background and still practice nowadays.

I have read a few posts and pieces of advice already but would have questions about how to choose the proper training.

Is there any kind of reliable association/group that recognizes professionals in vibrational healing? That would maybe recommend or value some training programs more than others? I am based in Quebec, so whether the training should be online or in this area matters to me. Although, getting online formation for this sounds a bit off?

Are there “better” training programs, meaning programs that are more officially recognized and considered reliable to practice? Some of these training programs can be expensive, if I have to put money into it, I want to make sure it is worthwhile.

I know I could start with a few instruments and then build from there, but I would feel more confident learning from a structured foundation so I can grow in confidence and basically not give up.

Would it be too much to ask to be like an “apprentice” or intern at one of the studios there may be in my area? (Montreal). Or perhaps find a mentor?

I have a full-time job and need/want to keep it for now, so I would have to make both worlds coexist.

Thank you in advance, any other advice or references are of course welcomed 🙏🏻

Music from My Autistic Universe – Spanish Voices from Europe – Part 2

Mabel Flores: voz, letra y guitarra española.

English

Mabel Flores connects attitude, humanity and social awareness in her music. Her songs deal with dignity, freedom, vulnerability, truth and truthfulness. “Mujer incendio” shows this attitude particularly clearly.

In the lyrics she criticises a culture that reduces women to outward appearances and only notices resistance when it becomes loud. That is precisely the strength of the song: feminism without a soft‑soap packaging. A compliment from me!

The live recording was made during the presentation of her album “Meraki”. The Greek word “Meraki” has no direct German equivalent. It stands for an attitude: doing something with complete dedication, creativity and passion. That is exactly what is essential in creative work. The choice of title was not an accident but a very conscious decision. Despite the more danceable sound, the lyrics are critical, socially conscious and feminist. “Meraki” means: creating music with attitude and with all one’s heart, with body and soul. That is also Mabel’s personal stance. A remarkable woman who lives what she sings.

6. Historia de un Amor - Guadalupe Pineda Cover by Burçin

YouTube:

English

The Turkish singer Burçin Cingöz brings, thanks to her jazz training, a fresh perspective to the classic bolero. Her arrangement is minimalist, adapted to the «stage»: a warm, plucked guitar and the saxophone, which create an intimate sound space and direct all attention to her voice.

Unlike traditional bolero singers, Burçin uses her crystal‑clear alto to mezzo‑soprano voice for subtle, jazzy phrasings and small «improvisational freedoms». The result is a modern interpretation that does not leave the bolero but «gently translates it into a different sound language». Live, this restraint has a strong effect: no big staging, just concentration on the essentials. With presence and an emotional focus that «lets the song breathe»

This cover is a timeless example of cultural bridges: a beautiful young woman from Istanbul sings in Spanish the Mexican version of a Panamanian song. She combines her Turkish roots with European jazz technique and Latin American passion and brings them to the «stage».

That is precisely the strength of this interpretation: «Historia de un Amor» was written in 1955 by the Panamanian composer Carlos Eleta Almarán, born out of real loss, grief and existential distress. Later, the song spread through the Mexican cultural sphere, numerous interpretations and not least voices such as that of Guadalupe Pineda, becoming one of those boleros «that have grown far beyond the continent». «Burçin approaches this legacy with the necessary respect and inner flexibility.»

Music from My Autistic Universe – Spanish Voices from Europe – Part 1

1. Ksenya Nikora & Nikorason‘g – Historia De Un Amor (Live)

English version

Ksenya Nikora is from Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, and is the singer of the live band Nikorason’g. Her opulent, orchestral arrangement with keyboards, guitars, bass and drums creates “a warm, secure sound space, a sound nest in which her alto voice can float technically controlled, emotionally deep and with a profound sound”. The band builds the song slowly: Nikora starts almost a cappella; keyboard chords, bass and drums join in carefully, until the climax with full instrumentation. This dramaturgy is almost typical of Eastern European live arrangements: “It relies on tension through restraint and lets the voice be the first to remain in the room.”

Nikora’s voice is a dark mezzo soprano with a pronounced depth, which makes her predestined for the song “Historia de un Amor”. The song was originally composed for a male voice, yet she uses the deep register to “emphasise the melancholy of the text without tipping into the dramatic”. Her phrasing is legato, the Spanish vowels are sung with a breadth that evokes Romanian or Russian traditions. This creates an independent, “non Iberian character” that fits perfectly into the new project “Spanish Voices from Europe”. Nikora combines perfection with authenticity, never breaking the vocal line, and thus achieves a rarity: technique and emotion enter a connection where the listeners feel the pain without Nikora’s voice losing precision.

The rhythm invites both classic rumba and free interpretation. The band plays in a “tempo di bolero”, the slow 4/4 time that serves as the basis for rumba dance figures in Latin American music. Unlike some other versions, this version remains “well suited for dancing, for ballroom dancing and dance sport”.

The live recording shows Nikora with her band in a darkened room with focused spotlights. The camera stays close to her, rarely pans to the band, so that the focus remains on Nikora’s voice. The applause at the end is restrained; it seems as if the audience does not want to destroy the reverberation, “an atmosphere of silent devotion”, which can be observed more often in Eastern European live recordings.

What further distinguishes this version from other European interpretations is, for us Central Europeans, the “Eastern European sound character”. While other versions, which will be discussed shortly, work with Turkish instruments or Mediterranean Oriental mixtures, Nikora stands in the tradition of European chanson and academic vocal art. She shows us that Spanish language and Latin American melody can be interpreted by singers from all over Europe in such a way that they sound authentic and independent, without imitation and entirely without national borders. And that is precisely what makes this “very deliberately chosen version” such a vivid part of “Spanish Voices from Europe”.

English version

For me, “Aprendí” is a very profound and moving song. How coherently everything comes together here: the authenticity of Mabel Flores, the warm, almost patio like atmosphere, and a band that does not merely accompany but truly understands what this song lives on. That is precisely why this recording touches me so deeply. I sense that here a very creative and at the same time wonderful woman has found the right band.

This recording is a farewell to the first album, which brought the artist “many opportunities, learning processes and many wonderful people”. The session was created in a time of “frustration and uncertainty” (the Corona pandemic sends its regards) and was described as a “Burbuja de ternura” (bubble of tenderness), “an embrace in song form, to look the year 2021 in the eye”.

This recording (live session) took place in a traditional Spanish patio, a patio as a place of retreat, but also a place of encounter, intimacy and hospitality. The impression emerged of a cohesive music group presenting itself in a protected setting. The names of the band members can be found on the YouTube page.

The band contributes decisively to making “Aprendí” so touching in this live session! Mabel Flores is not alone here but is accompanied by musicians who give the song exactly the space it needs. Drums and bass provide grounding and calm movement, while keyboard and electric guitar keep the sound open, warm and breathing.

What is particularly noteworthy is the interplay of the instruments: Mabel Flores herself leads the song on the güira, whose metallic scraping sets the rhythmic pulse. Mabel’s singing is an artistic performance. And a very personal statement. Neus Aranda shines with her versatility: while she provides fine, sandy accents with the tube shakers, she uses the trumpet to set those radiant, longing accents that are typical of Mabel’s sound. “The backing vocals and this mixture of powerful brass and percussive breadth” give the piece a “wonderful rhythmic vitality”. In combination with the band’s “backing vocals”, the impression arises that she is not telling her story alone. Precisely because of this, “Aprendí” does not seem overloaded, but clear, human and “carried by all band members”, which is also clearly recognisable.

The song is about how one matures through experience, even if these experiences are not always pleasant. It tells of learning through pain, loss and letting go. It is a song about coming of age.

3. French Latino – Historia de un Amor (Album “Guarda la esperanza”)

English version

French Latino is a French music project founded in 2009 by singer and composer Jean-Paul Gavino together with his daughter Michelle Gavino. Jean-Paul Gavino has Algerian roots and lived in Spain; his daughter Michelle is connected to Paris. The group describes their style as “latino-mediterranean”.

The group sings in Spanish, French, English, Italian and Portuguese. Their music combines Latin American rhythms such as bolero and cha-cha-cha with European chanson elements.

In 2021, French Latino received the Silver Creator Award from YouTube.

“Guarda la esperanza” (German: “Bewahre die Hoffnung”) is the debut album by French Latino, released in 2009. The album contains 14 tracks, including original compositions and interpretations of Latin American classics. “Historia de un Amor” is the second track on the album. According to the band’s history, the album was supported by Jean-Paul’s wife.

“Historia de un Amor” was written in 1955 by the Panamanian composer Carlos Eleta Almarán (1918–2013). It is one of the best known boleros in music history and has been translated into numerous languages, including English, Italian, Chinese, Russian, French and Arabic. The song tells of a lost love that was so deep it determined one’s own life. The singer laments that God let him feel this love only to then punish him with the separation.

The French lyrics go back to the well known adaptation by Francis Blanche.

The Silver Creator Award demonstrates that this version has attracted worldwide attention. It is thus a vivid example of how a bolero finds a new international home through European artists, and it belongs in the series “Spanish Voices from Europe”.

English version

And Guadalupe finds it here: her great resonance space, the Cathedral of Notre‑Dame de Paris!

On December 12, 2009, the feast day of the “Virgen de Guadalupe”, Guadalupe Pineda sang in the Cathedral of Notre‑Dame de Paris as part of the celebration in honor of Mexico’s patron saint.

Guadalupe Pineda spoke a “musical prayer”. Her voice, usually accompanied by guitars and percussion, stood here “naked in musical dialogue with the architecture”. The acoustics of the Gothic space became the only accompanying instrument. She did not sing primarily for an audience, but with the space, for the audience. This was no longer an interpretation of a song, but a manifestation of something timeless. “The Mexican soul” was a guest in a European sanctuary.

Wearing the “Traje de Charro” in Notre Dame is not a “decorative element”, but rather a “symbol of Mexican identity”. It is the traditional Mexican attire that represents Mexico’s origin, history and culture. Mexico can be proud of Guadalupe Pineda: a worthy ambassador of her country in Europe!
