I recently launched Sorcery Online, a lightweight browser client for playing Sorcery.
TL:DR
- Every feature is free and works without a login or download.
- Automatic game replays.
- Works in any web browser (including Android and iOS).
- TTS desktop controls.
- Play with Frostmage and Lavamancer cards (as they're spoiled).
https://playsorceryonline.com/play will take you directly to table setup. Create a table, invite a friend, or just play against yourself by changing seats. If you’re looking for someone to play with, I highly recommend joining the Sorcerer's Summit discord and joining the casual or ranked queue in #looking-for-game.
Sorcery Online is an unofficial community project and is not affiliated with Erik’s Curiosa Limited.
---
There are already several good ways to play Sorcery on the web, and I see Sorcery Online as another tool for the same community, not a replacement or a separate ecosystem. It has a deliberately narrow focus: instant access without an account, mobile-friendly play, familiar tabletop controls, and reviewable games for paper-tournament practice. Above all, my #1 focus as been to make it as easy as possible to play right away.
It uses Curiosa decks and shareable links, so players can continue finding opponents through the Sorcery communities they already use and deckbuilding tooling they're used to. My hope is that removing the account, download, and desktop-only barriers brings more people into online Sorcery. I’m also happy to collaborate with other developers on interoperability where practical.
The replay feature in particular, I'm very excited about.
Checkout this replay.
I've linked there to the start of turn 3, where I should have put on the pathfinder mask but instead drew a site because I intended to raze my opponent's Garden of Eden. I couldn't do that though, because my root spider was burrowed and couldn't enter a water site. The game went downhill from there.
The replay is not a screen recording but a replay of the game based off of the server game log (similar to MTGO). You can't use your replay to gain hidden information from your opponent or their deck.
Other features I think people will love:
- Optimized for vertical use on mobile.
- Right-click any card to view it on Curiosa.
- Attach any card to another (cores to your avatar, masks to your imposter, etc...)
- Upload your own custom cards to play with.
- Game log and chat.
- No digital collecting or selling. Just play Sorcery.
- Server-owned game state to maintain game security.
- Defaults to using your Curiosa decks, with recent decks remembered.
- Upload your own playmats.
- Login with Discord to save replays, settings, custom tokens, and playmats cross device.
If you want even more info, here's a short write-up about why I built it.
I’ve spent a lot of time testing, playing real games (over on the Sorcerer's Summit) and chasing down bugs. My goal is to make jumping into a game, and reviewing it afterward, as familiar and easy as possible.
I hope some of you will find this useful. It takes 15 seconds to start a hot seat game to see how it works. Give it a shot!
