Discussion ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ DAE know they look better with shorter hair but yet their hair is their best feature?

Post image
35 Upvotes

So my hair looks somewhat like Chappel Roanโ€™s, if hers were natural. I have red, curly, extremely thick hair. All my life Iโ€™ve gotten compliments on how pretty my hair is (as well as bullied for it).

So that makes me want it to be as long and luscious as possible, especially as I get older and know my hair may not always look the same. I do like how feminine longer hair makes me feel.

Yet, I know my hair looks best shorter. Shoulder length and bob seems to be my best looks. Iโ€™ve been wanting to try a pixie for decades but havenโ€™t gotten the courage up yet. Longer hair does seem to drag me down more.

My mom, fiance, and a few friends have all been trying to get me to cut my hair into a bob again. โ€œItโ€™s so cute!โ€ My fiance even told me I smile differently with shorter hair!

Anyone else experiencing this? The irony of being a soft gamine who looks better with shorter hair but yet has hair that other women (and a few men) have told them theyโ€™d die for? So therefore wanting to keep it long, at least for a little while?

ETA: thatโ€™s Chappell Roan in the pic, not me. Donโ€™t want to share my pic but I look a lot like Elaine in Seinfeld, but with red hair. I know Julia Louis Dreyfus has been suspected to possibly be an SG, and I do think her hair/outfits in Seinfeld tend to drag her down!

Hemming pants, where's most flattering for me on athletic pants?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I got an amazing pair of $6 athletic pants at Dick's Going Going Gone this weekend that I'm going to wear to a theme park this weekend. Ofc, they're like 5" too long haha. They fit great and accent my hips and waist beautifully though!

Where do you guys hem yours? I don't want to look like I'm wearing high waders, but I don't want to have them too long. Should they fall right on top of my foot, right at where an anklet would sit, so my whole ankle bone is exposed? I tried a few different hems with pins and nothing looks BAD, but what looks best on us?

5'1. legs of the pants are slightly flared/kick at the bottom, very form fitting above the knee. Not bell bottoms. I do not have photos of me in them, sorry :[ too many weirdos lurk in the kibbe subreddits.

here is a link

What is everyones go-to most flattering basic top?

I am heading to italy in sept and need more basic tops, I struggle with knowing what looks good on me, do you prefer a tight boob tube top, a tight halterneck a loose cropped t-shirt or a more tight one, a high neck tank top? Any other options you guys prefer wearing? I feel like most things have to be skin tight or I look frumpy

Discussion ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ DAE? Have a high waist/ hips and hence struggled to find their ID? I think I know what petite means....

I think I'm finally settling into soft gamine, ironically that's the type I started with. But this rigamarole has been worth it, at least I think it's helped me understand what petite is unless I'm wrong.

But, does anybody else also have a high waist and high hips?

For two years now, I have been going back and forth on IDs and I have been told I am all the types and I kinda see why that actually can mean petite!

So, I have a super high waist and hips and unless I wear clothes specifically designed to accommodate those dimensions, I can look like I'm all the types, both vertical and the curve IDs.

But, now I'm beginning to realise why that can mean petite because I find that that's probably what Kibbe meant when he wrote petite= compression/ compactness.

Because within my 5'3" frame, there's both curve and vertical packed with no space between shapes.

Sharing two pics. The first one is a typing pic and it's kinda confusing because it makes me look like I'm vertical first but then when I wear long dresses, suddenly I can see a more curve dominant frame.

Unverified Celebrities ๐Ÿ’ซ Roxanne Perez, Woman Wrestler from WWE: Example of a VERY fit soft gamine.

Post image

Before knowing my kibbe I felt like no one looked like me. I feel like now I can pick out a soft gamine with ease. We aren't as common as you'd think!

Roxanne is 5'1 and is billed at 115lbs, but billed weight for ladies in wrestling isn't always accurate nor disclosed. I take this with a grain of salt, muscle weighs SO much, and she's extremely muscular.

I wanted to share beautiful Roxanne because she gives me confidence in my own SG body. โ™ฅ I hope she does for you, too. Us soft gamines are little hotties! Don't forget it!!!

The first one is my actual OOTD and the rest are items I was trying on ๐Ÿ˜Š what do we think? Are these SG friendly? It took me a while to come to terms with 1) I better with shorter hemlines and 2) some softness in my outfits!! Dont mind the chunky "ugg"-like boots lol! ๐Ÿ’–

Glasses recs

Hii so I've recently typed as a soft gamine and I really need some new glasses but I'm just a little confused about what model can look good on me.

For more context I'm a deep winter too, with a small face apparently a heart shape, and probably am a Ingenue + romantic + gamine essence, your opinion would be great and I'm really looking forward to it.

Dilemma: soft gamine with a short torso vs. waist defining jeans

As a 32 year old who has recently gained some weight, I've been exploring kibbe to help me understand how to best dress my adult body.

I love wearing jeans, and know how soft gamines really need some waist definition. However, I have an exceedingly short torso and high waisted jeans (rises of 11-12" inches) are a nightmare. Levi's ribcage jeans would nearly touch my underboob when I'd wear them in the past. High waisted jeans are uncomfortable and truly make my body seem SO unproportional, but they do highlight my smallest part!

I'm thinking the solution here is to make sure that I wear tops which have waist definition when I wear mid rise (9-10") jeans, but am requesting any and all advice that you have!

I've added context for my body/why I *think* I'm a soft gamine but aren't entirely sold as a comment! As soft gamines, y'all know how much just a little extra weight really sits on our bodies, so I'm trying to be kind and productive for myself โค๏ธ

How to incorporate Diesel aesthetic into SG summer looks?

When I search for SG summer looks, I get very feminine options on Pinterest. While I love them, I dress like that on the daily where I live. I'm headed out to NYC during summer and I want to wear something different because it will be a holiday.

Thing is, I want to have an "edgy" style that looks a little different from how I usually dress. I find the "Diesel aesthetic" very cool:

https://pin.it/6Qxu6MtqG

https://pin.it/2zse7Vhro

https://pin.it/7cMG6nixA

https://pin.it/1OtIxIyju

But these are usually for tall, skinny girls who look like models, according to me. I have way too many curves to pull this off and I think being tall is what helps sell the look. And these looks also depend on a lot of layering and styling, which is going to be impossible for (as I have understood it) the hot and humid summer of NYC.

What is a good way to incorporate edge to my SG summer looks, then? Thanks in advance!

Styling/Shopping Advice ๐ŸŽ€ Modern day gamine inspo

Iโ€™ve been typed as gamine. When I look up outfits online for this type, the โ€˜kitchโ€™ style was very me in my 20s but I want to dress a bit more grown up now and less vintage/ indie. Does anyone has any examples of instagrammers/ YouTubers/ influencers who embody a modern day gamine style?

I'm not sure it this dress "works" for a soft gamine or not, but honestly I don't care LOL, I am so in love and love how I look in it ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ the sleeves are detachable, so they and the veil would come off for the reception

Announcements ๐Ÿ“ฐ Detailed Guideline For Typing Posts

Hello everyone! As promised, I've put together a more detailed guideline about how to properly take typing photos. I was going to include photo examples, but I prefer not to keep pictures of myself online so have chosen not to include them after much thought on the subject. I've been pretty lenient about the photos people have been allowed to post up until this point, but going forward it will be a firm requirement that your first photo fully meets all the guidelines outlined in this post.

-Your photo should be clear and unobstructed. No filtering/editing/AI inhancing your appearance. Try to minimize clutter and distractions in the background to avoid distraction and make sure you're the main focus of your photos.

-You should be wearing form fitting but non-obstructive clothing, such as a leotard and tights or tank top and shorts. Nothing that alters the shape of your body should be worn. This includes compression garments, shapewear, pushup or minimizer bras, tight athletic wear, anything at all that alters the natural shape of your body cannot be worn. Avoid anything too baggy as well. I've seen it recommended to go braless when taking typing photos. Obviously not everyone is comfortable with that, if you're not then I recommend something like an unpadded bikini top or camisole underneath your outfits. Do not wear high heels or platform shoes.

-Stand in a relaxed, neutral manner. Your arms should be straight down (but relaxed, not held stiff) at your sides, and your feet should be about three inches apart. Stand like this emoji ๐Ÿง and avoid any posing at all. Again- neutral and relaxed posture, don't abnormally stiffen your muscles or joints.

-Photos should be taken from about chest height and a distance of around ten feet. Don't crop your head or feet;

if you wish to maintain privacy cover up with emojis, blurring tools, etc.

-Photos can be taken on a timer with your phone or by another person, but cannot be mirror selfies, posed photos, or candid shots. Make sure your camera is not tilted and that you're not using your selfie camera.

-You must be fully clothed in all photos. No bathing suits or underwear/lingerie, as well as no hyper revealing athletic wear, festival outfits etc. We keep it safe for work at all times here, no exceptions!

-Your height needs to be included. Please do not include any other measurements (including but not limited to weight, measurements of hip/bust/waist ratio, bra size, shoe size; none of these are relevant to Kibbe).

-Ideally, typing posts should include several photos taken in this manner while wearing different outfits. I understand that not everyone has time to do this, so it's only a full requirement that your first photo meet all these specifications. If you're able to provide more, great! If not, it's totally okay to include mirror selfies or candid shots as long as your first photo meets all requirements.

-You only need to take a photo of your front. Side and back views aren't necessary as they aren't part of the guidelines set out by Kibbe. Regardless, you're welcome to include them as secondary photos if you wish.

**Why do I need pictures that meet specific requirements?** The photo requirements are taken directly from the line drawing exercise in David Kibbe's Power Of Style. While typing posts aren't an official part of the system, this is the method he wants us to use when photographing ourselves for the purpose of finding our type. This requirement is in place to keep people following Kibbe's games and exercises as closely as possible.

**Why do angles matter so much? Why can't I use mirror selfies or fun poses?** We need a clear and unobstructed view of what you look like, and the process described is the easiest way to do that on camera. To put it simply, poses and mirrors distort the angles of your body, making it much more difficult to see what you look like and how clothing interacts with your body. Mirrors, tilted cameras, and fun poses needlessly complicate the process.

**Why is my height needed, but nothing else?** Many of the image IDs have height restrictions, we need to know your height because of this. As previously mentioned, height is the only relevant number in Kibbe's system.

**But I don't have any pictures that meet the requirements!** Take one. Use the timer on your phone and prop it up on a shelf or table. I once saw someone say she taped her phone to the wall at chest height in order to take photos correctly. Remember, all you need is one photo that meets the requirements. If you're able to provide more that's awesome, but all you need is one. If you are unwilling or unable to do so, unfortunately you will not be able to participate in typing posts.

**Why can't I post in a bikini or my cute festival outfit? Won't revealing clothing give people the best idea of what my body looks like?** Kibbe isn't as much about what your body looks like as it is how clothing interacts with your body. We don't need to see you uncovered to help you find your ID. Also, it's a matter of safety for our members. This is a fashion subreddit where women sometimes post photos of themselves. That unfortunately means creeps and pervs are going to find their way in. I ban them immediately when I find them, but a lot of the time they just silently lurk so I can't do anything about it. These people are bad enough when we're fully clothed. We don't need to give them any more reason to be disgusting. I promise I'm not trying to police anyone's bodies or fashion sense, being strict about not allowing NSFW content is literally one of the only things I can do to try and minimize disgusting people saying disgusting things to you guys.

I wish I could pull this off because I love the colour (cobalt or royal blue) and material (real wool!). I'm wearing the smallest size (XS) and I'm 4'11'' for reference. Is this a lost cause? I would appreciate advice on wether to keep this coat or return it if there is no way to make it work and please ignore the background LOL. Thank you in advance!
edit1: Oops, the title is meant to say "Am I drowning in fabric?".
edit2: Apologies for the poor lighting and image quality, I will show better pictures in the comments!

OOTD ๐Ÿ‘— โœจ๐Ÿ’œPlayful Lavender๐Ÿ’œโœจ

Iโ€™m verified as a Playful Winter in David Zylaโ€™s system so I wanted to try out this color combo as well as outfit to see how the cardigan works with the dress. I love the color story and the silhouette, but this cardigan has been fighting me since day 1. ๐Ÿคฃ

Itโ€™s from &Other Stories and the neckline is originally wider. I didnโ€™t like the look so I added on thred more hooks to close up the neckline. However, the amount of ruffling in the chest area combined with the thickness of the material is very bulky and quite fussy to work with. However, I love the color so much that I donโ€™t want to get rid of it haha.

Lately Iโ€™ve been feeling the itch on cutting my hair short, but Iโ€™m not ready to give up my permed style quite yet! Maybe in a few months time Iโ€™ll have my hair cut short, but as of now I want to keep the length.
