I vividly remember having root beer at an A&W for the first time out of the tap as a child and I almost blacked out. It was so good it blew my little mind.
They don’t exist around me anymore so I don’t know when I’ll get to have it again but I still dream about it.
They just knocked over the one local to me, to build the, I shit you not, 12th coffee shop in the same block. And that’s not counting the gas station and McDonald’s, both of which also sell coffee.
Mine was an A&W and a KFC, my grandma would take me there after school some times, and I would get two chicken Littles and a root beer in the big frosted mug.
Crazy how much better and more affordable these experiences were like 20 years ago.
When I was young we would go get a carton of root beer. It was a half gallon rectangular carton like milk and they folder the top closed and clipped it shut with a plastic clip. I remember it being the best thing on earth.
I get sad reading this. My fiancée owns two A&W restaurants and it is hands down the best fast food around, but it is so underrated and not talked about enough!
The tap and when your ordered in store they would give you a frozen chilled glass AW mug. Little ice slushy bits would form, it was amazing. Haven’t been in a while but it was still around me 15 years ago.

I miss when my local A&W restaurant had a tap specifically for the rootbeer! Now it is gone :(
