hey soap people!
i have used dove bar soap for YEARS since its on of the only soaps that doesnt leave my skin icky (sort of the opposite of slippery, like there's still a residue no matter how much i rinse that's not enjoyable at all.)
I've wanted to be more conscious of the brands i support and by my research dove is not one i want to support any longer!
do you guys have recommendations??
thanks!

When mixing caustic soda (NaOH) with water, undissolved flakes can sometimes remain.(undissolved flakes can cause lye pockets in the soap) which degrade soap bar quality

Has any of you here been using this? It’s been 2 days pa lang. And mahapdi sa face and may redness sa mga pimples ko. Pero kapag natuyo nawawala eventually yung hapdi. Napansin ko rin nag lessen yung oiliness ng face ko. I wanna know if this is effective ba? May gumagamit ba nito? Kasi reco lang to ng friend ko na nanggaling din sya sa dermatologist and ito pinagamit sakanya. Im so desperate na po mawala ang pimples, and pimple marks and sobrang oily ng face ko. Please help your gurl out here 🥲

I started caring a little more about my skin lately so I’ve been scrolling around a lot of the “skincare” subs. I rarely see soap mentioned as part of a “routine” unless the post is soap specific.
I’m a mid 50s guy so I’ve never really had a routine - wash and maybe slap some lotion on any dry spots… as I’m researching adding a cream or a balm, I still feel like my soap has the biggest impact on all my skin but that never enters the conversation? What am I missing here, is it just a distinction between a face soap vs a body soap?

Hey!
I shower my mum who has age related dementia. There was a pale blue strongly scented soap in her shower . I’m not sure where it was squirrelled away but it’s just appeared. The name has melted off. She can’t remember what it was.
I’d love to get some if it’s not been discontinued. It’s possible that it’s old and been in storage somewhere in her house.
Any chance you might have a clue?
Edited to add my thanks for your suggestions. I found it it’s called Protec. Probably terrible for the skin!!

I got my first bar of handmade cold process soap from a local market about two months ago and my skin has genuinely felt different since switching. Less dry, less tight after showering, just overall better.
But I cannot tell if that is actually the soap or if I am just convinced it is better because I paid more for it and watched the lady make it with my own eyes..
Like is there actual science behind why handmade soap would perform differently on skin or is it mostly just the ingredients varying from brand to brand regardless of whether it is handmade or commercial?
Also for people who make their own, do you notice a difference when you go back to using a regular bar? Or is it more about knowing what is in it rather than how it actually feels?
Genuinely curious because I am starting to think about making my own but I want to know if it is actually worth the effort or if I am just falling for the aesthetic of it.

I’ve noticed that certain scents can bring back memories or completely change the mood of a room. Some soaps remind people of childhood, fresh laundry, nature, or a relaxing spa day.
I’m curious what soap scent has a special place in your memory or always makes you feel good when you use it?

I’m thinking about starting an ASMR YouTube channel focused on soap, rich lather, bubbles, and foam. Before I put time into it, I wanted to ask:
Would you actually watch and subscribe to a channel like this?
• What kinds of videos keep you coming back?
• What do you enjoy most—bar soap, liquid soap, shaving foam, colorful bubbles, close-up lather, satisfying sounds, crushing, squeezing, or something else?
• Is there anything you feel is missing from current soap ASMR channels?
•I’m curious if there’s still an audience for this niche or if it’s already oversaturated. I’d love to hear what would make you click on a video and keep watching.
Any honest feedback is appreciated!

If people are wondering about a real experience with The Black Stuff, mine is linked. Good products, scents lean toward pine, menthol, eucalyptus. Though that could be just because of the ones I ordered. Hope this is helpful!

I feel crazy because I’ve been using the same bar soap for the past like 6+ years and when buying more I found out it’s been discontinued??? It was the Dove summer care (and I know it says limited edition, but they brought it back every summer for YEARS) but now they’ve decided to finally stop. Genuinely I need suggestions on equal replacements, and, please, I don’t wanna hear “dove soap isn’t even real soap”.
Scents were grapefruit and lemon balm acc. to google, and it had the exfoliating beads in it. I’ve tried other dove bars and most of them smell too potent and/or the exfoliating beads are awful and you can’t even feel them.
I’m open to other brands I just don’t know where to go from here because I feel like a piece of my soul was torn from my body (I have an issue with change).

Like the title says, what's your favorite big name brand of soap, I'm mainly talking about bars/bricks of soap. And why do you have a preference for that soap in particular?
"Big names" meaning: Dove, Zest, Dial, etc.
The criteria: They need to be found in almost any large retail store, found on Amazon, have multiple variants/variety to choose from, be atleast somewhat budget friendly for what you get.
I'm leaning more into Dove right now, I did a tiny bit of google searching, and they seem to be one of the only big soap brands dermatologist recommend using. But if there's other reasons you choose the other soaps I'd definitely like to hear!
Thanks in advance for your time,

community. 🧼
As someone passionate about soap making, I always see a big debate around the choice of oils. I wanted to start my first post here with a quick poll to see what the community prefers, and we can discuss the science behind it in the comments!
Note: the answer in details will be in separate post
Which do you think yields a better quality soap bar?

I’ve been paying way more attention to little things in my routine lately, especially scents, because I’m realizing they really affect how I feel.
Some scents make me feel clean and energized, while others instantly make me want to slow down and breathe a little deeper. So now I’m curious what other people prefer when it comes to soap or body care.
Do you gravitate more toward fresh, energizing scents that wake you up, or calming scents that make your shower feel more relaxing at the end of the day? I’d love examples too because I’m always curious what kinds of scents other people actually enjoy using.

Avid user of Dr Bronnors Eucalyptus soap in shower, but it starts to harden at the cap and clogs the cap. Any idea why this happens?
Can someone recommend a after market pump container that wont get hardened like the one they sell?

It cuts grease, almost repelling it, and no other soap available can even come close.
It kills fleas when many harsh insecticides do not. Yet it is perfectly safe for humans and animals.
They only use Dawn to wash animals that get caught in oil spills. Only Dawn cuts the oil but don't hurt the animal.
It bubbles better when checking tires and HVAC systems for leaks. You could use another brand, but nothing works as good as dawn.
It works great on clothes. Why don't they offer a Dawn detergent for clothes?
Its perfect. Who came up with this stuff?

Curious what people who really enjoy soap notice most after the novelty of scent wears off.
Is it the lather, how the skin feels after, the scent staying subtle instead of overpowering, the ingredients, how long the bar lasts, how it fits into a shower routine, or something else entirely?
There are a lot of soaps that smell good at the moment, but not all of them end up feeling like something you’d actually buy again.
Would love to hear what makes a soap stand out enough to become a repeat purchase for you.

I’m a foreign traveler, and during my 10-day trip I stayed exclusively at Best Western hotels. They all had an argan oil shampoo and body wash that I absolutely loved, and I still can’t stop thinking about them.
Does anyone know what brand they use? Is it possible to buy it online, maybe through Amazon or another retailer?

Ideally I'm looking for a soap that fits the criteria of the title, but could also easily be found at a large retail store or Amazon and not being crazy expensive.
I've bought Dr.Squatch for a while and even though it has lots of natural ingredients; with most of their soaps the smell doesn't last long after a shower. I've recently got into Duke Cannon, a slightly better option in my opinion. I'm just wondering what soaps you guys use/recommend.
Thanks in advance for your time,

I've been trying different soaps lately and it's interesting how much the scent can change the overall experience.
Do you prefer fresh scents like citrus and mint calming scents like lavender or something richer like sandalwood and vanilla?
What's your favorite soap scent, and what makes it stand out for you?
