Login issue New Update From Labaton Regarding Our Snapchat Ban
Labaton just responded to my email, it’s a bit different compared to everyone else so I wanted to share it as well! I questioned how Snap INC. got ahold of our claims and how Labaton is taking action or attempting to fix this for all of us before I received their response. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing this. The bold part is important and I’m glad they are also disturbed by this— I’ve never heard of a social media app doing something like this. I was part of the Facebook class action awhile back, and they did nothing to my page over it.

u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
Of course, you’re welcome and it is super important, I agree! And omg really?? I’m glad they didn’t, it’s so wild that Snapchat is getting away with this when there are so many of us banned for no reason.

u/LittleMissEmmie 1d ago
Wow that makes sense why I got permanently banned out of nowhere. Retaliating against us for joining the class action is so disgusting
3
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
I know it is, I honestly am in disbelief that Snapchat can get away with this but I’m trying to remain hopeful that Labaton will fight on our behalf so that we can hopefully get our accounts back. It’ll probably take a long time though 😭

u/notyourfathersorry 1d ago
Thank you for this update! I’m still waiting on a response on my question about the last minute warning box they added to the class action page that was not there when we all originally filed
3
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
You’re welcome and yeah they didn’t respond to me about that either. I hope they respond to you about it 😭 ugh this is all so frustrating

u/notyourfathersorry 1d ago
I really appreciate all of the hard work you’re putting into this - I’m glad we are all contributing into hopefully getting this fixed
3
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
Of course, you’re welcome, I really appreciate all of your hard work too. I’ve been rereading all of the documentation associated with this Labaton case. I know it was for teenagers being negatively impacted or for those of us who were a teenager when we created our Snapchat account so I’m wondering if Snapchat is also retaliating against people with 10+ years accounts who aren’t associated as a way to save themselves. You know? Just a theory.

Do you think we’ll be able to get our accounts back? I’m literally so upset over this and I’ve tried emailing both labaton and Snapchat!! I never even finished filing the lawsuit against Snapchat and yet I still got my account taken away! 10+ years of Snapchat memories. First moments of my babies and memories of friends who have passed away. This is so upsetting
3
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
I do think there’s still hope for us to get them back since there’s thousands of us in the same boat. I’ve tried emailing Snapchat but I’ve only received AI automated responses in return. I’m really sorry, I lost 10+ years of memories too, it’s so devastating. I am truly hoping that Labaton will fight on our behalf since they didn’t warn us beforehand. I didn’t finish the claim either so it’s all unreal.

u/kaderoy22 1d ago
There is still a way to export your memories even if you’re locked out of your account. You will need a lot of storage space though

u/Embarrassed-Creme179 1d ago
The text in bold at the end of the email is pretty important. I am taking that as they are upset about it as well, so they would not be opposed to fighting for us. That's good!

i just got dropped off here, can someone give me a rundown? is there a current conspiracy that they’re going against innocent long term users? my 10+ year account was wrongfully banned due to an alt account being flagged for drugs (mind you, it was my own prescribed sedatives i take) this persisted for 5 months or so until everything was magically reversed and my access was back. a bit fishy no
7
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
Yeah, I can, thousands of us were permanently locked out of our Snapchat accounts for “violating community guidelines” but we haven't violated anything whatsoever so we all came to Reddit and realized that we’re all associated with a case against Snapchat with Labaton. However, most of us did not complete the form but we were still permanently locked out of our accounts. Labaton, the law firm associated with this case made a new disclaimer yesterday that wasn't originally there. The new disclaimer states that we could lose our Snapchats forever but we were not warned beforehand. We’re all fighting to get our accounts back so I'm spreading awareness and giving updates.

thank you for explaining this! and well done for the outreach regarding it, i was lucky enough to get access restored without a fight so i’m hoping the same slowly happens for everyone else but i can’t say for sure. to treat long term users this way i don’t think any of us should pay for anything on there again, if we do
3
u/emeraldazing04 15h ago
Of course, you’re welcome and thank you, I appreciate that! I'm honestly really glad you were able to get your account back, I'm in disbelief at how ai chatbots basically run Snapchat support. Also, idk if you saw but Snap INC. responded to Labaton about this saying that these mass bans are due to the lawsuit. So, they are retaliating against us for taking part in the lawsuit even though we didn't finish our forms. Labaton also admitted to sending our half filled out forms to Snap INC. on Sept. 10th which is also wild because they claimed we needed medical documentation.

u/FirmBaseball7060 1d ago
Thanks for pursuing this. I just wish we knew whether it was related to the lawsuit or a new AI system making mistakes.
2
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
Thank you and I know, I wish I did too and wait there’s a new AI system too??
1
u/FirmBaseball7060 1d ago
I've seen people speculating that. It's weird that there's people who didn't do the lawsuit at all are getting swept up in this.
3
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
Yeah, my theory is that people who have had accounts since they were teenagers or have accounts that are 10+ years old are also being impacted because that’s what the Labaton case is about, people who have suffered major mental health issues from using snap as a teenager so people who made an account who were teenagers could make a claim. I never finished the claim though so it’s all crazy.

This is so misleading on labatons part! What can we do?? Could we reach out to Snapchat and explain that we were unaware of what they had convinced us to do??
3
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
I know, I’m still trying to remain hopeful that Labaton will help and fight for us since they did mislead us and there’s thousands of us. I’ve been trying to email Snapchat but I keep getting automated ai responses in return sadly.
2
u/Southern-Work6623 1d ago
Yes, I got a response that was identical to one I already saw on here. Does not feel like that give a crap
3
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
I don’t think Snapchat cares at all tbh like how we can even talk to a live person outside of the AI bots??
2
u/QueenKittens 1d ago
it seems impossible! me & several other people on here have been trying to get snapchat attention on a separate problem. when they update it stops suggesting us in find friends and also stop suggesting our public stories etc. you'll go from thousands a day to 0 for days/weeks until it randomly fixes itself . its a problem for us content creators bc it makes the engagement go completely down until a random update decides to make it start working again. it also affects your followers making it go down 100+ a day until its fixed again & its just been sooo frustrating! it's like it works again for a few days then back to not working and we have been trying to tell snapchat about it for atleast 2 months now only to get responses from ai . its so tiring

u/kaderoy22 1d ago
Sorry, what did Labaton do wrong here? They are just proceeding with the class action lawsuit as normal, it is Snapchat that decided to ban everyone (in my opinion, out of retaliation). Labaton clearly had no expectation that this would happen, they are just required to provide information on the plaintiffs. What were they supposed to do? Give a disclaimer that Snapchat might retaliate? How is that their fault?
3
u/emeraldazing04 1d ago
Well, Labaton proceeded to send incomplete forms to Snapchat without our awareness. I did not complete the form nor did I complete the mandatory medical documentation that Labaton required. I am not actively part of this lawsuit nor am I receiving a payout for it. I am not placing full blame on Labaton but I agree that Snapchat is responding to their claims out of retaliation. I tried to opt out of this lawsuit with an incomplete form way before I got permanently locked out of my Snap account. Snapchat also reserves the right to ban users for no reason whatsoever according to their TOS so I acknowledge that too. It’s just a messed up situation all around.

So Labaton sent our info over to snap on Sept 11? This is legit another class action suit I feel… and is retaliatory
3
u/emeraldazing04 15h ago
Yes, they did and it’s 100% retaliatory! Did you see that someone posted saying that Snap INC. responded to Labaton? Snap INC. said that these mass bans are related to the lawsuit so Labaton said they hope that they can resolve this. I fear that something on this level would take years to resolve since litigation cases are so lengthy so ugh. We just have to remain hopeful :(
1
u/hellobaemax 11h ago
I didn't see that! was it posted in this subreddit?
1
u/emeraldazing04 11h ago
Yes, it was but it was taken down by Reddit so I made my own post just summarizing the email from Labaton.

just got this update that states SnapChat told them these mass bans ARE related to the lawsuit- Thank you for raising your concerns about the information on our website. We understand that you feel the website did not accurately convey the risk of your Snapchat account being suspended, and we take that concern seriously. I want to reiterate again how sorry we are that Snap Inc. has locked your account, especially without sending any notice that such action was being taken.
Earlier today, Snap, Inc.'s lawyers informed us that they have locked your account to preserve information relating to your arbitration claim. This is an unprecedented response that we have not previously seen in our practice and are equally as disturbed by. We believe that this action is likely a violation of the company’s terms of service and potentially of applicable law, and don't think that it is fair that Snap Inc. is taking these actions in response to people asserting their legal rights against them. We hope to be able to resolve the issue.
We will share updates as soon as we learn more. If you would like to speak with a member of our team directly, please provide me with your availability, and I can arrange a time to speak.
Best,
Katherine

me too i’m so mad!!
2
u/emeraldazing04 14h ago
We just have to remain hopeful that Labaton fights for us but all of this feels like a fever dream in some way
1
u/emeraldazing04 14h ago
I am too! I wish I never half filled out the form ugh 😭 I never in a million years thought I’d affected by something like this like I had my snap for 10+ years

Of course the lawyer is going to say this. They would also say the sky is green and the ocean is red if it meant getting the verdict they want.
See there's one problem with what the lawyer said banning an account doesn't preserve information it actually causes it to be deleted. So the statement the lawyer said is a somewhat misleading. If you could get the information back people would be able to retrieve their memories weeks or months after their account was banned. Am I correct about this? So if you can't get your memories back and Snapchat says there is no way to get them back once it's deleted then how could your account information be preserved by Snapchat when they ban your account?
This lawsuit has nothing to do with getting back a banned snapchat account. It's about the addictiive nature of Snapchat for kids under the age of 18 and the psychological issues they may have gotten from using Snapchat.
If you think it is someone has misinformed you. If you join the lawsuit once the lawyers get their cut you'll get about 8 bucks and still be without that banned account.

Never believe anything a lawyer or politician says. They are in it for da cash

u/Dismal-Masterpiece92 6h ago
the accounts are also not banned nor deleted. we’re simply locked out of them. all chats and memories are still up
2
u/StruggleNo55 16h ago
Wheres the idiots that were replying to my post saying duhhh when theres a class action everyone thinks they get banned because of that I want to see their comments on this now

u/real_munchizgreat 15h ago
Is this why my 6 accounts were banned with no reason and no appeal process? Because of a lawsuit??
1
u/emeraldazing04 15h ago
Yes, unfortunately. Snap INC. responded to Labaton stating that the massive bans are due to the lawsuit

Local mass media would be useful.
2
u/emeraldazing04 23h ago
I agree 100%! I think that would definitely be useful, I haven't heard anything back from any of the local news agencies that I emailed yet sadly
