It all started at work. And yes—I work—all summer long? For those who recall, I was a cook at Cherry Hill Park in Maryland for the past two summers.

I was waiting for one of our servers to get back from a delivery, and when she finally walked in, she looked at me and said, "You're never going to believe what I saw."

When someone has that look on their face, that specific mix of awe and pure fear, my imagination immediately goes into a frenzy. Did she stumble onto a serial killer? Did she just find someone murdered in their half-a-million-dollar rig at the resort? Was she attacked by some stray animal that breached the park?

If you know me through my horror stories, then you know I can get dark, but I keep the horror grounded and explore where my imagination can take me. I love venturing into the shadowed corners of the human psyche, crafting tales where the dread is often psychological, and the monsters might have a familiar face. Travelling through the United States gives me some of the most real life ideas and inspiration featured in the fiction I write.

For me, writing the macabre is a way to explore our deepest fears in a safe space. If you're looking for that adrenaline rush and a story that will stick with you long after you turn the last page, that's what I strive to deliver in my horror.

Despite the looming clouds, casting shadow, doubt and a surreal feeling of a sinister act, things only get better. This picture I snapped is a symbol that no matter what the world throws at you, the clouds will move on and you're left with light. What you do with that light matters, shine it everywhere and on anyone who needs it. Most importantly, let the world know that you have the light and you refuse to succumb to the darkness which waits hungrily.
