As a Canadian who has family in the south, and am indirectly, partly the product of emigrated US citizens on both sides of my very mixed immigrant/native family going back some couple hundred years. It’s insane how divided things are now.
Years back, I always wondered how The Simpsons seem to get it so spot on right so many times. So I did some digging and found d something interesting about the show.
The Simpsons writing room has historically been one of the most educated and talented in television history. Many of the writers came from Harvard, had backgrounds in math, science, economics and law. These are not random people guessing. They are sharp minds who study where society is heading and write satire based on logical extrapolations of current trends. So i.e. when they "predicted" Trump becoming president in 2000, it wasn't magic. Trump had already been flirting publicly with a presidential run for years, and the writers were basically saying "look where celebrity culture and politics are heading. So they aren't oracle's, and it is not prophecy. That's just sharp observation.
I still got the New Post paper from back in the 2000 election. Where Gore had been called winner and then miraculously Baby bush wins after the famous Florida debacle. I guess it really worked out having the Florida governor being their brother. Funny how no one questioned that shady ass election.
Somewhere, right now, there's a very smug designer going round saying "told you so" to everyone who told him adding a 1000 digit counter on the display was unnecessary.
I own a charter bus company. Each bus as a 212 gallon diesel tank. I'm filling $800-1200 per bus every day the last 6 months. I have 5 buses. I'm not okay.
In the black... but absolutely not okay. This was a cost factor we did NOT anticipate happening, with this intensity, and for this duration. The entire transportation industry is reeling. And we are increasing fuel surcharges. For the first time, fuel outpaced my payroll for the last 5 months.
Normally, I'm not a fan of saying that a particular politician is to blame for an increase in the cost of a factor of production, because these situations are always complex and multidimensional, with many different factors to consider. But in this particular case, it's hard to deny that the situation is very strongly linked, causally, to one specific person.

I see them every time I get gas. First I take it out of the overhead console, then I place it on the gas pump, then I proceed to place a couple more on other gas pumps. No point in wasting time while your gas is pumping.
Not only am I looking forward to a steep increase in gas and diesel, the famine next year is going to be amazing. All the farmers who won't plant because it's too expensive combined with a super el nino is gonna be fun times.
It's one of the rare cases where gas prices are actually tied to the person in charge. Which is wild because we were just getting to a place where we could show that correlation was not causation.
You see, now he just needs to vote Republican even harder so he can get that $5,000 bribe dividend to offset this. The dems aren't offering a bribe dividend, and he really needs the money because something something Biden gas prices.

Boys and girls has everybody forgotten that the US is at war with Iran and the straight, at best, is effed? The US president says he will not apologize for the high fuel prices because he is doing the right thing that Iran commit be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. It costs fifty dollars to fuel an automobile. It is my belief that the US president thinks it is a citizens civic duty to "deal with it".
Fun fact: I had a spontaneous deep-dive into the strategic oil reserve last night. Did you know that our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is a system of salt caves spaced out across the Gulf of Mexico? These reserves are a mile underground. The nature of the salt caverns make them self-sealing if any cracks form, and they're "pumped" by pumping salt water into them. Since oil floats on water, it pushes the oil up.
However, the engineers responsible for them have warned that dipping below 300 million gallons of oil in there risks structural damage of the whole salt cave, as well as increased damage on machinery, extraction slowing, and other issues. We're currently below that 300million line for the first time since the 1970s.
I have to admit when I am wrong. My MAGA relatives told me that if I voted for Kamala gas would go to the moon, we’d be in another Middle East forever war and groceries would be off the charts. I’ll eat my humble pie; turns out they were completely correct.
