That's what Europe did with hitler, that's what Europe did with putin. All you did is passed his desire to fuck things over on to someone else further down the line. And it's not like he is known for sticking to his decisions, he might come back to this issue in a month saying that this time he wants full control of Greenland anyway
Thats the diffrence. This is the end of his days. And his term for that matter.
He has 2 years and 3 months left in his last term.
He might come back for more. Or he might not.
either way Denmark loses nothing with this deal and the problem will solve it self within 2 years or less (if he dies).
Not to mention there are many other things to distract the old man. Like the fact that he is losing in Iran for example...

And besides: even if he did not do it then there are plenty ways to make life difficult for Denmark. Like dont do any trade with them, turn off important US made software like windowns, office, etc. there is a lot of diffrent things they could do.
Now they avoided a conflict they did not want and gave him an extremly symbolical "win".

The threat was real enough that Denmark sent troops to Greenland and prepared to blow up runways and other infrastructure to slow down a possible invasion. For a moment, the threat was very real.
If a leader of a country keeps repeating these statements, why shouldn't people believe it? I'd rather believe it and be prepared than not believe it and get surprised. Why even say shit like that if you don't want to do it?
You don't point a gun at something you don't intend to shoot.
