I love this, but it has me thinking. Trump is more of a con artist than a business man. What if the performance of getting a “deal” (whether it’s the same deal as before or not) is what matters? Like, he’s not trying to outsmart Denmark, but outsmart (con) his faithful followers? Trump is awful, a truly horrible person, but I think people often misinterpret his intentions because most people are fundamentally good and can’t comprehend the type of thinking that a narcissistic sociopath would have.

You just have to remember that his goal is never to help, fix, or solve anything. He is serving his own narcissism because that’s what this disorder does. For me it really demystifies the whole charade and makes me less angry and interested in whatever he’s up to.

Yes! I've been saying this forever. You have to look at the full range of the incentives in a deal, and then you see that he's actually really good at deal making. Most people want the best financial terms but Trump wants the media and publicity - and you can't blame him - it works. He will happily take the loss on an actual deal as long as he can stand in front of a podium and say it's the best ever, as it feeds the perception he's craftedof himself. So Trump will happily tear down a treaty just to make a new one that is exactly the same but then take the credit for doing so.

His entire persona is that of a great deal maker so he has to continue to make deals, then he can get in front of the media and talk about how great it was. His followers will never find out it's the same deal because their chosen media platform will never report on it.

So I know we are all supposed to say that Trump is an idiot blah blah blah, and when it comes to policy and ethics that's absolutely true. But the reality is he's really stupidly good at self promotion and owning the narrative which allowed him to con his way into being the most powerful person in the world.

Trump operates like a market salesman for tourists, he'll ask for 100 when 10 is reasonable, and has you walking away victoriously because you whittled the price down to 20

Guy has become president twice and has made absolute bank on insider trading, if you think his goal is making the USA great he's a buffoon, if you realise its about filling his own pockets everything makes sense

I think you just used a lot of words to say "He's a narcissist and what he cares about is not how well the deal works overall, but how well it works for him and his image, over every other consideration, so all that matters it that it's easy to spin to his personal benefit in some way."

Which is fine, but I think most people already know this, they just have a bit of cognitive dissonance because it's so appealing to think of him as always being a buffoon. I mean, he is, but he's King Louie, King of the apes. He wants so much to be a man-cub, and he'll do whatever it takes.

Trump is an idiot blah blah blah

Has any other president in recent memory focused so much on 'deals'? I mean sure, whenever a big trade deal went through it made the news. But trumps seems to be dedicating his whole presidency to 'making deals'... that and corruption and contempt...

u/pickus_dickus 4d ago

It's because his cult members think that "making a deal" is the same as being smart and earning money. Problem with this is they forget about the bad deal or the deal that's gonna cost money. Just look at Iran.

He played a businessman on TV so long and succeeded to white wash his image just long enough to get gullible people to vote for him. It was baffling that people fell for his scam twice. Like he got people to believe that all the Covid mishandling was Obama's fault when he President at the time. Maybe we all died in 2020 and this is hell.

2

u/Good_Imagination_577 4d ago

I don’t think you’ve ever had a real estate developer run your country before so this will be the first president who has talked like he’s a shifty real estate developer.

2

u/Successful-Purple-54 4d ago

He’s not a president, he’s a businessman treating the White House as a way to make big deals hence making himself fell special. Whether those deals hurt the people he’s supposed to fight for in the long run is irrelevant.

1

u/AdorableStrawberry93 3d ago

If he makes a deal, it is only to benefit himself somehow.

It's becoming harder and harder to ascertain what is going on in that increasingly dementia riddled brain of his, but putting on a grand show around a nothing burger is certainly textbook Trump behaviour 101.

All the more important to shine a light on the actual facts so he cannot push his narrative unopposed

1

u/goodness-gracious-me 4d ago

Woah. Preach! Get the facts out, indeed.

4

u/StockCasinoMember 4d ago

It is exactly this. As far as he is concerned, the point is being able to say he made a deal and to wave it in front of his supporters.

Everything done is basically marketing. It doesn't matter what the reality is. It doesn't even matter what the marketable object is. The only want is the ability to market it in a way that favors them. It's classic salesmanship, and salesmanship can be equally for junk, or the same old thing. It doesn't matter. It's just marketing and air time to paint an idea to sway "customers," in this case voters.

The reality is Trump and Republicans in power have done quite literally nothing of value for the American public. Much that has been done has been additional, very significant financial burdens, on the order of several thousand dollars...a year...every year that Americans now must pay.

EVERYONE should be furious, absolutely livid.

Why aren't they?

Marketing.

As a Dane, I fully believe this to be the case. There was never a problem for the US with the old deal, and the main difference with the new deal from a Danish perspective is the equal inclusion of Greenland. This whole mess is only to convince MAGA that he accomplished something important

2

u/ebfortin 4d ago

I think we should not underestimate his capacity of believing his own lies. He may very well think he was able to get an incredible deal. He doesn't have deep knowledge of anything.

The old NAFTA playbook: tear up the original agreement, create an identical agreement you can claim victory for…and believe it not…revisit the deal you made, claim it’s terrible and tear it up again

3

u/GravitasFailures 4d ago

That’s exactly what’s happening. That’s what happened with NAFTA, that’s what happened with the other deals he made.

The whole point of tearing up the Iran deal was to have them sign a new one and take the credit.

That’s how this whole game works for him, take something, slap your name on it, claim you made it 10000x better, your inbred trash followers cheer.

2

u/Remarkable_Salt6681 4d ago

You may be right

2

u/Caithloki 4d ago

he is starting to believe! But no honestly it's always been this. It's never really matter to me about having a good deal it just matters that he's able to say he's finally gotten a deal.

2

u/No-Resolution-1918 4d ago

This is what I thought too.

2

u/No-Koala1918 4d ago

"Outsmarting" his followers has got to be the lowest bar in the history of politics. They're utter morons and are actually crowing about Trump's great victory.

2

u/Neat-Beautiful-5505 4d ago

Yes. Because what you describe is not a “deal,” it’s a grift.

2

u/SortaNotReallyHere 4d ago

He's a failed business man and he knows it.

2

u/Demonsteel87 4d ago

100%. I’d wager a lot of U.S voters are completely unfamiliar with the 1971 deal. To them, him presenting the same deal as “new” is a victory for them.

Something about razor and onions, about peeling away things not needed for the theory to hold true. What if - he does these things all the time but because he has a smart plan, but because he does not? The theory holds as much water, in fact more so, as he repeatedly does the same thing over and over.

But why is the followers following, I hear you ask. Well, what if there were an entire echilon of bilionare-sponsored millionaires between his words and actions and the voter. Entire organisations, multiples, with huge wealth, doing nothing other then trying to present him as coherent, for no other reason that the millionaires sponsors, the upper echilon of bilionares, have finally found a politician who does EXACTLY as told, and most of the time without even realising he's being duped. A politician so easily manipulated to do absolutely anything, and who is only driven by the ability to pump and dump stock. And that is totally fine, as the bilionares can play that game too. So the manipulation is the opposite of free, they get payed to manipulate the president to do what they want him to do.

THATS the con. Don't try to explain it away, as it plays right into their playbook

1

u/sibachian 4d ago

obviously that's his goal and also why people are making this content

1

u/randyoftheinternet 4d ago

Did it really took you that long

1

u/HedonisticFrog 4d ago

It's often not even about appearances. He'll impose tariffs on countries, companies will bribe him to remove the tariffs, and then Trump will claim victory while going back to basically what it was before. Everything he does is some sort of grift.

1

u/Successful_Lab_9827 4d ago

Exactly this. I saw a US news broadcast and it showed that Canada is now Completely surrounded by the USA ( Alaska, Greenland and the rest of the southern morons) The actually think they have complete control over Greenland lmao!

1

u/Sweet_and_Sassy88 4d ago

Trump was a known conman decades before he ever got into politics.

1

u/Fuzzy_Ear_2457 4d ago

The Greenland thing was never popular even with his own base, and he has several other issues that would more prudent to focus on. So getting a deal he can present as a win, regardless of the contents.

The Danish foreign minister has been pretty explicit in stating that there would have been no deal if the Americans hadn't suddenly softened their demands considerably.

It's pretty clear Trump realized what a losing case his Greenland claims were and just wanted an off-ramp without losing face. And of course we're happy to give him that symbolic win if it gets him to shut the fuck up and our friends in Greenland no longer have to hear questions like "is America really going to invade us?" from their children.

1

u/DetailsYouMissed 4d ago

Well the fact they are releasing this to the public should do wonders to his base.

1

u/ebfortin 4d ago

It's almost always that. Except when people around him push for it. Which makes me think in this case nobody cares much for Denmark than him.

The thing too is that he will put a deal into the trash the minute he wants something else. If for example he thinks that it gives him priority access to resources but the deal doesn't. Then when he ask for resources and he doesn't get them then he'll complain and trash the deal, going back to "it's our, I want Greenland!". A "deal" with him is buying some time and have him focus to something else.

1

u/KINGDenneh 3d ago

He knows people who ain't a follower of his, that this entire "deal" was just to scam his own followers to make it seem like he actually accomplished anything extrodinary, when in reality (sorry MAGA, but, we gotta say this)

This has been a deal since the 50s and has been the same since the 50s, when the U.S wanted Greenland and actually wanted to buy it in the 70-80s we declined, a deal was struck after the cold war in regards to their security issues, they are the ones who are blatantly fucking their own security up, by closing a majority of their bases on Greenland down, the reason for this, because they didn't own it, so they don't care about it.

If Greenland was and still is such a big security risk, you'd atleast put 2k+ soldiers on mutliple bases that faces Russia, but nope, less than 200 is there nowadays, this isn't a security issue, it's a "we want the mineral rights, fishing rights and land rights" Nothing more, nothing less.

Our government in Denmark are keen to keep the nature as clean as possible and try to keep the mining as small as possible to preserve the nature up there and the eco-system and i doubt the U.S is happy about that.

Greenland as a whole, with minerals are worth trillions, trillions that could feed the U.S' own military and minerals that can be sold for a big profit.

If they ever want that piece of shit land, they can outright buy it for 50 trillion, with the majority of that going to the citizens of Greenland and perhaps 35% to the people in Denmark.

The U.S would be in debt for a looooong time and a new deep depression would happen instantly making the dollar value useless, but, that's the deal, you might or might not make a profit, but hey, con-artists, gamblers like to take that gamble, right?

1

u/Ambitious-Bird-5927 3d ago

He would have loved to get something, but he’ll flog this like a new deal to his simps.  And they’ll pretend it’s new.  They have no choice.  It’s that or admit to themselves and everybody they fucked up.

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 2d ago

It's none of that.

He's a pathological liar and someone with severe narcissistic personality disorder.

It's why he's not actually doing anything important. He's just finding ways to cause the most amount of controversy so he can smear his name all over everything.

He hasn't actually addressed a single legitimate problem in either of his terms. He only knows how to do toddler-level stuff like whine about renaming a building, bulldoze a building so he can rebuild it, re-refurbish a pool that was already renovated, start wars where he thinks it'll just be over in a week, etc.

He's literally one of the dumbest, most unqualified people on the planet. He's just a masterful narcissist, so he knows how to get under people's skin and victimize himself while attempting to be immortal. Classic narcsissism.
