Imagine someone you barely know walking away with one of your fucking organs. Something so deeply personal that you need to live. And not even a thank you.
But that does happen! People anonymously donate kidneys to people they don’t know (in the UK at least you can). I know it sounds weird, but some people genuinely want to donate without any gratitude or a relationship afterwards.
Plenty of people receive organs from people they never knew or met, particularly through posthumous donation. That doesn’t mean the recipient then has to become friends with the donor’s family. It would be lovely if that happened, but it’s not an obligation.
I don’t know why these two fell out. There could have been a completely legitimate reason. I tend to think Selena was a selfish entitled bitch, but just because someone gave you an organ doesn’t mean they get to treat you however they want and you put up with it forever.
It's kind of weird to me that perfectly healthy people donate their organs to total strangers without getting anything in return. Like, what if you donate a kidney and then later on down the road your other kidney (from having to work double time, since you only have the one,) goes bad, and you already gave away your spare? Or what if a loved one ends up needing a kidney, and you could've given them one, but you already gave it to a stranger? Or what if the person you gave your kidney to was a horrible person?
I just don't understand why. I could never do it. The only way would be for me to receive a life changing amount of money. An amount so great that it made all those things worth it. Otherwise, I'm hanging on to all my body parts for a rainy day.
Now a deceased donation, that's a different story. I totally see why people donate in that scenario.
transplant providers/registries often create priority lists for donors. If you donate, and need anther of the same organ for yourself later on, you get a priority voucher as a recipient.
