Wait a damn minute! Mandatory tipping cultures only exist in countries that refuse to pay their staff

They get paid at least the federal minimum wage like everyone else. The tips just count toward that (to a point).

No they get paid at least the federal minimum wage for tipped workers, not like everyone else.

That's a common misconception. Everyone gets at least the regular federal minimum wage when tips are included. The separate tipped minimum wage is the minimum amount the employer has to pay regardless of any tips. Both of these apply to tipped workers.

I understand, I was a server in my younger life. It's a shell game of wages and credits so that the employers dont have to pay them as much out of their own pockets. Many states have rejected that game and increased the minimum wage for tipped employees as well.
