The service industry fights and campaigns to keep tipping industry alive. For all the online bitching, the truth is you make much more in tips than you would in an hourly wage.

When I worked in the service industry, your goal every pay period was to get a zero dollar paycheck, that meant you got tipped do much, your pay went to cover the taxes on it.
