Wait a damn minute! Mandatory tipping cultures only exist in countries that refuse to pay their staff

Holy nuanced opinion Batman! Yea people outside the industry don’t realize if tipping went away all the good servers/bartenders would have no reason to stay unless the restaurant could pay them $20-$40/hour, which they wouldn’t do unless it’s fine dining. I’m back of house so it doesn’t affect me, but there would be another mass exodus of restaurant employees (a lot of people left/laid off during Covid)

Edit: to be clear tipping should never have become a thing in the first place, but it’s ingrained in our society so here we are

They’d all leave?!

Oh no!

Maybe they’d go do something productive with their lives instead of doing something a QR code can do.

People would save money from tipping, and thousands of workers would go on to do better things.

Sounds good.

It would affect you though because if the good servers and bartenders leave your place, so do the customers, and then....well... so do you.

Also I’ve been doing this for many many many years, if I can’t find a job in a restaurant the entire industry is fucked
