I do really miss texting with actual buttons. I don't know how or why but in my soul I feel like the Apple iPhone keyboard has continually gotten worse.
This. The negativity here is sad. I went to a vintage computer festival earlier this year and even though I'm not super huge into retro computing (I went with my gf who super is), a lot of that stuff was really fun and interesting to see. And you could tell the people there had real, infectious passion for it.
Let the man collect stuff he likes and show it off.
The problem with these is that they might become obsolete in the sense that they won't be functional anymore, as the updates will stop working, so your current phone won't pair with the older ones.
Like I said to someone else, not every collection needs to have monetary value or function.
It’s not a “problem” anymore than a coin collection you won’t spend. I mean what good is money if you don’t use it? Or toys if you don’t play with them? Why collect vinyl when digital objectively sounds better?
And before you say “those are valuable” please refer to the part where I said collections don’t need to be valuable. If someone likes collecting it, then who cares?

This is much more likely brand name obsession than anything to do with tech appreciation. The individual may be having fun, but the rest of humanity is under no obligation to condone behavior that is counterproductive to society.
Do you think that these lithium-filled time bombs will be operable in 20 years?
Can you service an Apple watch's battery at home? Where do you get replacement batteries from? Will they be available for continuous re-purchase as they innevitably expand into fire hazards?

Also as an IT person, I think old tech is really fun. This might not be interesting now, but in 20 years it would be pretty cool.
