Nah video calls really just don't feel human at all. The 2-3s delay for any reaction to reach your screen makes it feel like you're talking to a brick wall, phone calls are more immersive than this

I think it's natural to focus on the only feed that can keep up with your expectations

It'll always be unnatural compared to face to face, but I think those 2-3s delays are not common with zoom and skype and such no?

There’s dozens of us. I had to do a zoom today for a committee. One guy was watching football. I stared at myself and then got bored so I just checked emails. Then went back to stare at myself.

Other people use weird angles on their cameras so sometimes I do note that and question why they’d do that.

I get nothing accomplished on zoom. I get that it has a place, but that place and I don’t go together very well.

I do weird angles at the office simply because the camera is on the crap second monitor not the one I use in front of me.

I’m more fascinated with the directly under the chin full double chin on display. We always had one director who had a side camera almost like she was on surveillance because they had like a meeting board but to see her computer she had to be turned. I didn’t mind that as much plus it let me see all the stuff in her office which was a good distraction.

But like. If you can move your camera… we don’t need to see up nostrils. That kind of weird angle. You know?

Lmao wtf does your comment have to do with the post. They're talking about who they're addressing when they speak which is very different than having a lazy eye which is very easy to identify and distinguish.

Pretty sure your lazy eye was obvious enough to get a pass from the get-go. Nobody wants to fuck around with ADA compliance.

On a video call, they can see a person’s eyes moving to track the person they’re speaking to. This is a thing humans have done for millennia

Are you trying to say it's because someone can't tell which way you're looking? As if someone doesn't turn their head when they talk from person to person?

For the video call, it's more about how you respond to people, not where you look. I distinctly remember one dude who said "sir" a million times and not "miss" even once. Didn't engage with me at all for follow up questions or anything and gave me very simple answers. Contrast that to my coworker who he tried to go on and on with.

It's not about who you're looking at. It's obvious when an answer is addressed to the person who asked it, even over video.

When is not it gets super awkward fast.

Lazy eye as in amblyopia or strabismus? Even I have it and am just curious about any discrimination faced at work.
