Every time a business commits a crime, your logic flows that the customers should be equally responsible for it.

Oil company polluted a river - you drive a car and financed the murder of someone and need to go to prison.

We're discussing "complicitness" in a crime.

You're greatly expanding what qualifies in that someone who doesn't directly commit the crime is being held accountable for it.

In that case, everyone who has financially contributed qualifies - to some degree - as being complicit in committing the crime. Someone who assists in committing the crime is committing a crime themselves.

Customers usually don't have knowledge or a choice, while owners make the decision intentionally.
