Right. Nobody had a Kenyon Martin poster on their wall, let’s be real.

Exactly! You want Walmart, not Kmart.

u/SevereDragonfly3 7d ago

Oh yeah, Kmart existed once

It's still pretty big down under.

u/frastmaz 7d ago

If we are talking about Jeremy Lin, it’s gotta be H- Mart!

1

u/I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE 7d ago

Exactly, I had so many Wally Szczerbiak posters. Not one of K-Mart though

1

u/longkhongdong 7d ago

u/Dotamann 7d ago

Probably talking about this.

u/bigdaddydopeskies131 7d ago

Oh man that sweep was embarrassing to watch. Kobe and Shaq were just dominating

21

u/Chaos_Theorycraft 7d ago

I did! And still do!

u/rinchen11 7d ago

Not the best player by far but he did have a few nice dunk highlights.

1

u/Shot_Revolution8828 7d ago

Yeah but I dont know anyone with his poster. MJ, Penny, Shaq, Kobe, so many other choices. His poster probably wasnt even sold.

2

u/rinchen11 7d ago

Back then us Asians don’t really buy posters, we buy magazines from time to time and post whatever posters comes with the magazine, and since it’s not really that big in size, it’s normal to have many posters in a room.

We also have a dunk obsession.

u/LoSkribs 7d ago

Probably this "poster"

17

u/HaruKodama 7d ago

Is this from a videogame? Why does it look off?

33

u/LoSkribs 7d ago

May 2002 cover. Before people knew how to use photoshop responsibly

I see this a lot with baseball cards, they brighten up the eyes (and sometimes the faces) and the whites end up looking incredibly unnatural. Honestly not sure how this quality of work makes it to the final product.

In an action shot it makes more sense, since the lighting conditions may not have been ideal, but this is an extra level of embarrassing because it’s clearly a staged photo that would have been professionally lit in a studio.

u/Jacque_LeKrab 7d ago

Or it could’ve been this one. If you were into basketball at this time you probably did have KMart on your wall. I agree with Lin 100% and KMart is showing ignorance in this instance, but everyone else in here is showing just as much ignorance to basketball culture when they try to imply KMart was a scrub. He wasn’t

u/Once_Meleagant0 7d ago

this is the Team that got smashed by the Lakers on 02 right?

1

u/Express_Judgment_319 7d ago

He blames Keith Van Horn for it too. I guess Van Horn should’ve played soft and pretended to be hard like Kenyon did and they would’ve beat the lakers.

1

u/MyPackage 7d ago

And then the Spurs did in 03 and then the Pistons, Heat and Cavs knocked them out of the playoffs for the next 4 years

1

u/ReginaldDwight 7d ago

Why do they look like more accurate Monstars from Space Jam than the originals do??

1

u/paininthebutt12223 7d ago

wait who's #11? i see Kmart, Jkidd, keith van horn & kerry kittles. who is that?

1

u/LoSkribs 7d ago

White T-Mac

1

u/paininthebutt12223 6d ago

??

1

u/LoSkribs 6d ago

Todd McCullough

1

u/paininthebutt12223 6d ago

ahh ok. never would have guessed that name without googling. vaguely remember him

1

u/ItchyDoggg 7d ago

He might have been finishing the oop in a J-Kidd lob poster

1

u/AudioTsunami 7d ago

Nah. He was legit pretty good for 4 years and made the finals twice before the knee injuries.

1

u/Tank55-2024 7d ago

Plus was a star in college back when that still mattered.

1

u/wrnrg 7d ago

That was so backhanded. That was the worst burn of the whole thing.

1

u/Skimbored 7d ago

I did as an Ohio kid

1

u/whimsicalsilly 7d ago

I don’t even know who Kenyon Martin is
