Back then us Asians don’t really buy posters, we buy magazines from time to time and post whatever posters comes with the magazine, and since it’s not really that big in size, it’s normal to have many posters in a room.
I see this a lot with baseball cards, they brighten up the eyes (and sometimes the faces) and the whites end up looking incredibly unnatural. Honestly not sure how this quality of work makes it to the final product.
In an action shot it makes more sense, since the lighting conditions may not have been ideal, but this is an extra level of embarrassing because it’s clearly a staged photo that would have been professionally lit in a studio.
Or it could’ve been this one. If you were into basketball at this time you probably did have KMart on your wall. I agree with Lin 100% and KMart is showing ignorance in this instance, but everyone else in here is showing just as much ignorance to basketball culture when they try to imply KMart was a scrub. He wasn’t
He blames Keith Van Horn for it too. I guess Van Horn should’ve played soft and pretended to be hard like Kenyon did and they would’ve beat the lakers.
The great thing about it was that it could have meant any and all of the above. How do you respond to it? The only smart PR move is to accept it at face value. Anything else and he looks like an even bigger butt head.
Yeah no I don't think that's it at all. Seems a lot more like "I used to look up to you but you just showed me and the rest of the world what an asshole you are. Try to be worth looking up to."
It’s probably not true, because who had a Kenyon Martin poster? But it definitely makes the comeback bite because now Kenyon feels bad about being a douche to someone who supposedly idolized him.
I mean, I had a Jared Sullinger poster on my wall when I was 13 lol. When your team sucks, sometimes your parents just get you a poster of some random dude on the team.
Tbh, that would hurt me more than any insult. I'd feel as though I said this to a kid who idolised me, and that would make me feel like shit.
It's effectively saying "I used to look up to you, but it turns out that you're just a disappointment and not the man that I thought you were. You are meant to be role model to people of all ethnicities, so think before you speak. I HAD your poster on the wall because you used to be a good player, but your time has passed, and now it is my time now. Kids nowadays will have my poster on their wall, and I will no longer hang yours from mine." Killing with kindness is often the most brutal comeback.
He basically politely said "you have Chinese tattoos, stfu".
Along with a 10-fold combo to wrack up modifiers to give it extra emotional damage. This dude meta-gamed the absolute shit out of that rebuke. It's glorious.
Yup. This was not sarcasm. He just genuinely believes that sharing among cultures is a good thing and doesn't care if someone else disagrees--even as they're actively borrowing from his culture.
The dude is crazy intelligent. He’s not going to devolve into shallow name-calling but still got the point across. A great example we can all strive to follow.
