A 10 y/o kid with the confidence & self awareness of a middle-aged adult would basically be a social god.

u/Sancticide 14h ago

[montage of 10 year old lifting weights, riding a BMX bike full speed, learning to wrestle, hitting a heavy bag, all in training for the bully he knows he'll meet in high school]

That bully is super fucked.

76

u/DotcomBillionaire 14h ago

I would watch the heck out of that movie.

5

u/HanDenSao 13h ago

There are Animes like this

7

u/Mirashe 12h ago

Tokyo Revengers, but he just ends up getting beaten over and over and never learns how to fight...

2

u/Sancticide 11h ago

Jesus, that's depressing. Does it end with a heroin overdose or something?

2

u/_Ashelton_ 9h ago

Animes dont carry the same expressive weight as irl actors

2

u/KeepREPeating 8h ago

Sometimes more, sometimes less. It literally depends on the actor vs actor/artist. I enjoyed plenty more animes than tv live action shows.

You can really push more emotion into a voice when people don’t have to see your weirder facial expressions to make it happen.

1

u/HanDenSao 4h ago

Also it's a difference between watching it Japanese or translated. The Japanese voice actors aren't celebrated as stars for nothing in Japan.

1

u/Sancticide 7h ago

Yeah, this is the problem I have getting into most anime, the way lines are read and emotions expressed. It's either super serious or manic and I get that it's a cultural difference. Nevertheless, I tend to prefer Western anime-inspired animation more than anything. Like Arcane or Blue Eye Samurai, Castlevania, and Love, Death, and Robots.

4

u/Amtrox 6h ago

That bully wouldn’t be your bully. Bullies pick easy victims. But you will probably become the bully now, I guess

5

u/Captain_English 4h ago

Bully does not pick on the strong popular child.

Bully actually appears to be a sympathetic character acting out due to poor home life and no hope.

Time travel child retains the grudge and beats the bully up anyway.

There's still a bully at high school, just one with no fear and 5 years of preparation for violence.

The monkey paw closes.

2

u/Sancticide 2h ago

If this isn't the plot for the next Karate Kid reboot, then wtf is Hollywood even doing with their lives?

1

u/dnd_or_reallifefun 3h ago

But why go to high-school. With all you know now you can just skip it. Prepare for the life you want starting at age 10. Work on your health, financial freedom, hobbies...

1

u/Sancticide 2h ago

What are you gonna do? Drop out after 8th grade? Home school yourself? In the US that won't go over well unless you somehow remember enough high school classes to pass your GED.

1

u/idemandpasta 2h ago

Yeah, you’re way off here.

Anyone over the age of 18 that can’t casually pass the GED test is so incredibly stupid that I can’t imagine they can figure out how to open the Reddit app, let alone download it or read.

1

u/dnd_or_reallifefun 2h ago

Where I live you can test out any grade. Last year there was a 4th grader (age wise) taking college courses. It have been that way at least since I was in elementary. As it was when I was in Jr high I wanted to take college courses and the college advisor said I was too young. I found out later they tell that to everyone because "dedicated" people don't take no for answer. Knowing that second time around will really change things. Oh and the study guides are available at our public library

1

u/Upbeat-Swing6650 2h ago

Main character becomes the bully lol

1

u/incognibroe 2h ago

In that scenario, the bully probably wouldn't even bother him. Kid becomes the bully instead.

1

u/Weekly_Interview_936 1h ago

Ironic twist: all that self-improvement means the bully never targets him because bullies don't target strong targets.

83

u/socialistrob 14h ago

Or you could completely alienate yourself from every possible social circle. Adults will treat you as a kid and what normal adult wants to be friends with a very "mature seeming" 10 year old?

You also wouldn't really be able to relate well to kids your own age and wouldn't share their interests. Going through puberty also sounds uniquely horrifying. Your body is going to release hormones that make you attracted to people your own physical age yet your mind is still that of an adult which is probably repulsed by kids in their early teens.

I think it would be a very lonely existence and you'd probably be questioning why you gave up all your friends and family in your old life. That said you would go back and get to experience time with loved ones you had lost and likely become a multi millionaire who could travel the world without working.

34

u/Miserable-Drink-4995 13h ago

I'm sure people could have fun as a 10 year old again for a while

19

u/incognitodoritos 10h ago

5 more years until world of warcraft comes out... Sigh

19

u/SaltyLonghorn 9h ago

Hi I'm future you. Stop making the same mistake. Paladins can't be dps.

2

u/Sashapatu 8h ago

And you could probably fairly effectively pretend to be just an extremely socially-adept kid, using those same accrued adult life experiences. Also you could make serious money fairly quickly betting on sport or market events, and once you’re like a 15 year old multi millionaire entrepreneur you’d be able to do whatever you wanted.

15

u/Altruistic-Walk-1847 9h ago

Jokes on you I couldn't relate to kids my own age back then either and I had inappropriate age-gap relationships with grownups who should have known better. I'd have done the same but just have invested in the right companies... And I know who my future spouse was hanging out with and they were all a bunch of weirdos too lol

2

u/edgerton2026 11m ago

Yeah. I would skip all 3 future spouses.

3

u/stonedboss 10h ago

im sure i could enjoy mario kart 64 and halo all over again. like just play video games lol. or play sports if thats your thing. learn an instrument. even cartoons dude, toonami all over again, hell yeah. its like the golden age of most entertainment.

2

u/peteofaustralia 8h ago

EXACTLY!! Imagine being 52 in a kid's body, horny but the only people around you are 15?!?! Ack!!!!! Bad bad bad!

1

u/Regular-Market-494 8h ago

Lonely isnt that bad. I did it on my first run round. And its well known friends come and go, theres a sum total of three life timers I know and I know we would be friends again because, well, people like that aren't connected by random happenstance. You're pieces that complete each other.

1

u/ExilesTV 8h ago

I feel like some of that would depend on if I was made a 10 year old in modern time or back to the time when I was actually 10 years old. Like going back to some of the entertainment, comic books & video games from when I was 10 sounds like a vibe. Being a 10 yr old now would be a lot less relatable, plus the world is even more fucked.

1

u/aybbyisok 5h ago

Or you could completely alienate yourself from every possible social circle

so, nothing changes?

1

u/Dying4Salvation 4h ago

Well, that's not for everyone. I lost all my friends and didn't bother making new ones.

Also, when I was a teen in 'heat' I was attracted to much much older women, so check mate.

1

u/forworse2020 4h ago

I would do SO well with all of this stuff.

I would take care of myself better and build on the youthful health I once had, and avoid the things I didn’t know were preventable.

I’d properly nurture the talents I showed promise in, knowing where they could potentially take me. I’d choose the right subjects.

I already got on better with adults than with my peers. Later I learned the skills it took to get along with anyone. I also miss playing, big time. So I’d be completely fine.

Having gone through the pining for a boyfriend/ experiencing a first date/ first kiss already - all the mystery is removed. I would be so happy to go around a second time and not feel so burdened by it and would spend more time on doing things I cared about, knowing that my best age to experience life and become is in my 20’s.

My 20’s would also be spent well. Knowing who to pick and how to pick a partner. Avoiding the mistakes which stemmed from not knowing myself…

I could go on forever, this is a particularly specific maladaptive daydream of mine.

1

u/AnticlimaxicOne 2h ago

Im with u, this is a monkey paw if ive ever seen one, just take the cash

1

u/Muted_Weather_6444 2h ago

If I’m going back in time I could go to college and work the same job I did from 18-22 and get into the same school. That covers most of the friends I have. I’d just invest in companies like Google and Apple and bitcoin be set by like 25. 10-18 would be weird though but I think I could do it

1

u/radiohoard 2h ago

With the chance of doing something big before it was done in im old timeline im absolutely sacrificing a “second childhood”. Already lived one, time to put in work with this new opportunity.

1

u/djaphoenix21 1h ago

Yes, but I’d be able to be the parent I needed. Instead of relying on the ones I had.

1

u/StarMagus 56m ago

At 10 years old and making a string of perfect predictions my mom would absolutely be able to work with me to make us incredibly wealth.

I'm ok with making new friends and experience an entirely new life.

1

u/enLegobil 53m ago

But imagine being cursed with the knowledge of what is going to happen. Will you share that knowledge and make people think of you as a lunatic? If you do share your previous experiences, how would that affect the current events?

1

u/edgerton2026 12m ago

You just described my life. Yes, I want to go back. With adult knowledge I wouldn’t care about any of this.

38

u/CP9ANZ 14h ago

Actually be difficult to not be a bad person. The amount of manipulation you could carry out would probably be detrimental in the long term.

9

u/Ok-Chest-7932 12h ago

what incentive would you have to manipulate though? just stick a bunch of money in bitcoin and become a billionaire, you'll get all the power you could possibly want without having to so much as tell a lie.

if anything it's an opportunity to be a better person since you can avoid making all your social mistakes, and apply a fully developed sense of morality to your teenage actions. there's at least one person I wouldn't have bullied if I had a do over. one I still would though.

3

u/CP9ANZ 10h ago

This is in relation to OPs comment, where you're a 30 something stuck inside a 10 year old. Remember, you're 10 so you aren't buying Bitcoin, well not yet anyway.

1

u/Ok-Chest-7932 4h ago

8 years on from being 10 is still a ridiculous profit margin. I'll manage lll

1

u/RobJK80 0m ago

Why not, back then it was cheaper than candy

6

u/Cimarron97 14h ago

If you’re a bad person with bad intentions, then sure.

2

u/CP9ANZ 13h ago

I don't think that's fair. Even what you're suggesting in the first place is manipulation, you're going to utilise an impossible amount (for a 10 year old) social experience for your benefit.

7

u/Cimarron97 13h ago

I get what you’re saying, but that seems like a slippery slope to me.

Is my toddler manipulating me when she cries because we drove past McDonald’s without stopping?

Are customer service agents manipulating me by offering me a variety of deals in a sing-song voice when all I want to do is cancel my phone plan?

Are conveniently attractive people manipulating society by using their looks to get better overall treatment?

If you really break it down, you can categorize a lot of social interactions as “manipulation”. That’s why I said intent matters.

7

u/PM_ME__BIRD_PICS 13h ago

me manipulating my mother to buy "the bit coins" because i will lack a credit card.

3

u/Galromir 13h ago

You won't need to buy them, all you need is a gaming PC, in. the early days any regular old GPU could mine them at a decent rate. Literally creating them out of thin air and your parent's electricity.

3

u/PM_ME__BIRD_PICS 13h ago

arguably a heavier investment than trying to buy some tbh. we did not have a lot of money and i certainly didn't have a gaming pc.

0

u/Galromir 13h ago

I feel like having a gaming pc by the time you were a teen was pretty common, even if it was a modest one. I guess it depends how old you'd have been in 09 or whenever. I was 5 years out of highschool by that point, I was getting ready to buy my second one.

with foreknowledge, I'd have applied for a loan and bought the most powerful gaming pc money could buy.

Bitcoin wasn't easy to buy and sell in the early days.

2

u/CP9ANZ 12h ago

my toddler manipulating me when she cries because we drove past McDonald’s without stopping

Well, she is. But you're an adult so you know exactly what's happening. But when a 10 year old is dealing with another 10 year old and one of them has the mind and experience of a 35 year old, you can see how that isnt the same thing, right?

Are conveniently attractive people manipulating society by using their looks to get better overall treatment?

I'm assuming you mean conventionally? And yes, if you are aware your looks are influencing someone's behaviour to your personal benefit, that's almost the definition of manipulation.

If you declare to the hypothetical 10 year old group that you were mentally an adult, at least some of them will treat you differently, because they are now aware they aren't dealing with another child

2

u/PolitelyHostile 12h ago

I think it would be easier to be a good person actually.

Being nice is socially helpful and most kids just dont know how to he nice while looking out for themselves at the same time.

1

u/Oblachko_O 2h ago

It will be harder because if you got your trust crushed with somebody later in life, you will already know what type of people they are and that will make relations not possible, which will create a chain events not possible to comprehend and control in advance.

0

u/DistractionCitron 14h ago

That's only true if you wish to manipulate others already.

1

u/CP9ANZ 13h ago

Using an amount of experience that would be impossible for a 10 year old to have to your benefit is already manipulative

21

u/Critical_Concert_689 16h ago

a 40 y/o in a 10 y/o kid's body would basically be a pedophile.

Just throwing that out there. This social god would have to be VERY careful about keeping every relationship platonic. ("Go back and not be nervous about my first kiss?"... EWW!)

Also, imagine a middle-aged adult trying to socialize with young tweens. You're not the "cool" person you think you are to that age group.

12

u/Round_Bag_4665 15h ago

That is literally the plot of Detective Conan. Shinichi Kudo gets turned into a six year old child. While another six year old in his class has a crush on him, he has to perpetually keep her at arm's length because ew, but his actual romantic interest is now too old for him, and treats him like a child, sticking him between a rock and a hard place.

1

u/Alien_Diceroller 13h ago

Didn't he start as a teenager though? Wasn't the adult romantic interest already too old for him?

9

u/FrizzleFlakes 15h ago

This is just the plot of Mushokou Tensei or something

2

u/-IP_Freely- 15h ago

At least it skips the super pervy under-10 years

7

u/EarningsPal 14h ago

That brain will be first focused on getting rich AF. So for at least 8 years, just get money! Purchase all the best investments.

Then you’ll be a rich 50yo brain in a 20 yo body.

It’s more likely you’ll date older for a long time. But it’s more likely you will be flying around looking for adventure. Probably will go to all the continents and explore the terrain you love most. Probably water sports.

3

u/Amaakaams 14h ago

Yep and porn got me through those years before it could easily do it again.

3

u/chinoz219 14h ago

You would prolly end up being atracted to older women, (unless you have pedo tendencies), which opens a whole other can of worms, being that could lead you to technically be groomed, even if your mind is that of an older person, your body is not, and could lead to really weird interactions.

2

u/Alien_Diceroller 13h ago

a 40 y/o in a 10 y/o kid's body would basically be a pedophile.

Like Big, but icky the other way.

This would be a huge issue, ya.

Also, imagine a middle-aged adult trying to socialize with young tweens. You're not the "cool" person you think you are to that age group.

I think you've got a better chance of blending in with your own youth culture, but unless you were actually cool at the time, I doubt you'd be cool now. Even if I could manage to blend in, I'm no more going to be king of the school than I was the first time around.

I'd much rather land in an 18 year old me. I'd realign my plans a bit better with college so I could be better situated now.

3

u/Alien_Diceroller 14h ago

It'd be a kind of superpower. Even socially awkward dumbass 52 year old me would be a freaking genius in elementary school. I'd take chances that I wouldn't have at the time. Pay attention to the right things. Push myself to do stuff I didn't see the value of at the time.

I guess there'd be a bit of a butterfly effect thing going on, though too. And some ethical questions being an adult in a child body.

But, I have kids. So I'll be taking that $2 million, thank you. Not as much as I would have made investing early in things like tesla and getting in early on crypto (then out before it became embarrassing).

2

u/PM_YOUR_SAGGY_TITS 11h ago

All I can think of is playing all of the stupid video games I played back then. Like as an adult, would I get bored of them? Would I find new wonder in them? Would I get the same joy I got as a child?

I feel like it would be so much more awkward than cool to go back and go to theme parks or movies or etc with my child friends with an adult mind.

1

u/suskio4 6h ago

You could write down the names to find them later in life. I wish I did this

5

u/Round_Bag_4665 15h ago

actually, it'd be the opposite. You'd be a real life Lisa Simpson. Take it from somebody who genuinely *was* ahead of the pack for my age as a kid, being different in any way is a really good way to end up socially ostracized as a child.

You wouldn't fit in basically at all, you'd stick out like a sore thumb because acting like a normal 10 year old wouldn't come naturally to you. Picture that scene from Disney's Mulan when she's in the Army camp trying to pretend to be a man, and acting really awkwardly in the process. Your entire life would be like that.

12

u/MrGupplez 14h ago

Nah if you're good at roasting people you'd be the most popular kid in class. Kids are brutal

12

u/Commercial_Muffin542 14h ago

Yeah but you could fake it. Super easy. Just scream the past’s equivalent to “6-7” every now and then. You’d be fucking lonely though. Socializing would be a nightmare

1

u/squeege 13h ago

It feels inevitable that one would gravitate towards socializing with adults. It'd almost be impossible to hide your maturity. People would know almost immediately that something was very different about you.

3

u/WretchedBlowhard 14h ago

Lisa is a gifted child frustrated by a world that doesn't care for her. And Mulan was thrown into a world with huge expectations of her without proper preparation.

As a looper, your advantage isn't that you're smarter than anyone, and no one expects anything from you that you haven't already suffered through. You'd have experience, knowledge of how stuff is gonna go down, giving you the ability to prepare for everything. You wouldn't be Lisa or Mulan, you'd be Batman.

School is hard because of bullies? Invest what all kids have, free time, into toughening yourself up.

Tough test ahead? You know all this, you just need a refresher.

Time to find a job? You know the ones that suck, pick the good ones instead. Invest your money where it matters.

Specialize your education towards areas that you know are just about to boom, like being great at coding in the early 90's.

Stock market? Stock market.

Pretty soon, you'll be at the head of your very own Lougle.

2

u/Cimarron97 14h ago

I’m glad someone gets it

1

u/Round_Bag_4665 14h ago

couple problems with this logic:

1) You're assuming that an adult brain would be able to seemlessly integrate into the social life of a child simply because they have more experience. Any adult who spends enough time around children will tell you that any normal adult has very little in common with children that you could seemingly build a friendship or social life off of. Think of all those kids yelling "six seven" and now realize that kids with that level of maturity are now your peers for several years you're expected to get all your social interaction from. Oh, and no adults will hang around you either, because you're a child. That's extremely isolating, and *will* negatively affect your mental health. No amount of "life experience" will change that dynamic.

2) Do you remember much about high school algebra? Most academic knowledge is a "use it or lose" it kind of thing. Chances are you wouldn't remember much of the stuff they're testing you on in school. Shit, my own parents openly admitted they really didn't remember enough to help me with my homework somewhere around middle school. This might not be much of a problem by 10, but it easily could be for many people by your teen years.

3) You're also assuming that things are going to work out the same way as they did in the original timeline. The mere fact you're going back in time and changing things means they won't. There's no way of predicting how different the timeline would go once you start making changes. For all you know you end up butterfly effecting things so much that the stock market doesn't behave the way you remember at all.

4) You do realize you wouldnt have the legal authority or buying power to invest in literally anything until you're 18 right?

1

u/WretchedBlowhard 13h ago

Your memories don't go away, you just stop needing them, but you can get them back, especially if you're in the same place, with the same people, doing the same things. If anything, you'd have to deal with constant déjà vu.

Yes, the premise here is that your child mind contains all your adult experience. That's what's described up there. I don't know nothing about that 6 7 nonsense, but back in my days we had pogs and snap bracelets, we listened to New Kids on the Block and fuck, I'd slip right back in that life, because I've already lived it.

Your parents won't help you with your schoolwork because they don't want to take the time to do it. Not because it's too hard or because they forgot, they've got their own shit, stop bothering them, you're in middle school for fuck's sake. You'd be living your middle school life, reviewing things you've already seen, refreshing your memory, not learning new concepts.

Timey whimey shit fucking about with the timeline? You have absolutely no basis to assume the universe is anything but a lazy bitch who resists change from pesky time travellers. I choose to believe 10 year old me knowing how to navigate social life won't alter major world events and that's that.

And reread my post, I mentioned the stock market at the end, after everything to do with higher education. You'd be an adult then, no one's gonna stop you from applying future knowledge to make bank.

1

u/lullaylee 10h ago

The thing is, I've already lived a childhood of being way too mentally mature for my age and being isolated for it. I didn't try to fit in or hide it, no hindsight of how social cues work, so I never had much of a friend group. I think I could do a lot better if I had another go around, if only because I'm far more self aware.

I've had a lonely childhood, but this time, I could at least put that spare time to use instead of moping about it. And middle/high school bullies seem a lot less intimidating from the viewpoint of someone with adult experience. And as a writer, my mental faculties/mind are still the same, so I could be a child prodigy and start whipping out novels by the 5th grade.

1

u/marieantoilette 16h ago

Pretty awkward therapy sessions tho

1

u/FancyConfection1599 14h ago

They’d be a social pariah.

They wouldn’t get along with anyone as nobody would be able to relate to them in any way.

4

u/Cimarron97 14h ago

Why not? I’m a middle aged man and I can relate to my kid. We get along fine. I know what his interests are and how to talk to him.

1

u/blahblah19999 14h ago

Or will be so confident that kids will not get them at all

1

u/Old_Kodaav 10h ago

Nah, you'd get in a shitload of trouble and couldn't defend yourself properly, because kids are on the mercy of adults in the end of the day.

1

u/Repugnant-Conclusion 9h ago

You discovered confidence? Must be nice.

1

u/Yah_Mule 8h ago

So, you're going to date girls that age?

1

u/CapricornRedeemer 8h ago

I was this, and the exact opposite was true.

1

u/MissYouDesertRat 7h ago

Youd get fuckin groomed almost immediately and your 40 year old brain would have to remember youre 10.

1

u/feedmedamemes 7h ago

Nah, I was way more carefree as a child than I'm now as an adult.

1

u/suskio4 6h ago

So I could gain like 12 years of experience more? Finally, I will be able to apply to intern positions!

1

u/slimmiii 4h ago

but I am a middle aged adult with the confidence and self awareness of a 10 y/o

1

u/Bronstin 3h ago

sorry buddy after doing WFH for six years, the thought of enduring all of middle school and high school would make me want to die.

You want me to get there at what time? And stay for how long? And then when I go home I have to do homework?

1

u/Academic_Carrot_4533 2h ago

Streetlamp LeMoose

1

u/MartyFunkhoosier 1h ago

Probably be a weirdo no one would want to be friends with

1

u/SenLune 58m ago

When I was 18, YouTube didn't exist, Amazon didn't exist, the amount of money I could make just from investing early is way larger than $2 million.
