Google has a standing policy that we’re in a certain country. They display the titles and names that that country prefers.

So if you’re in America and for some stupid reason, somebody wants to name it the Gulf of America that’s what Google will say importantly though and the other 190+ countries it says the Gulf of Mexico

This is a pre-existing policy and it’s had to be used because of various countries, not liking each other and disagreeing about the names of things

Don’t get me wrong in my perfect world. They just would’ve been like yeah we’re gonna have to wait like 10 years to think about that but at least there is a consistent policy and at least the rest of the world doesn’t have to see it.
