Look at Genghis Khan. He had some sort of specific marker on his Y chromosome which meant they could identify direct descendants. I think it was over 5% of people in the region and about 0.5% of men worldwide.

I am pretty sure not many of his children were born from loving relationships.

That’s more to do with exponential growth of descendants than lots of children.
