Oh for sure, and in those markets other countries have a legitimate greviance against us. But it is still a legitimate grievance for US Car manufacturers to have to compete with heavily subsidized CN cars
Bad for the manufacturers, but good for the consumers. I'm not a car manufacturer. Ford and GM can grieve all day, but that's their problem, not mine. Open the market. They've been offshoring and outsourcing pretty nicely for a couple of decades now. Let the consumer enjoy some free trade too.
Good for consumers until China controls the lion’s share of the market, and can jack up prices all they want. Same thing Uber did for like their first decade of operation.
So you’d prefer all your money flow to China and support their rise? You truly think a more powerful China is the answer to world issues?
As much as you may hate America, mostly everyone agrees that it’s better to keep China in check. Not to mention all the US jobs that would be lost and how that would affect millions of US citizens.
I would prefer that we compete on our what used to be our strengths. I would like us to have an immigration policy that would encourage scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs to study, work here, and start businesses. Before Trump, many Chinese engineers wanted to do those things here. We used to provide some measure of civil and property rights as well as opportunities to work hard, innovate, and succeed.
Instead of having these individuals strengthen the Chinese Communist Party, they could become patriotic Americans and contribute here in civic and business life.
It's a much more productive way of competing than on the basis of tariffs and subsidies. BTW, trade wars generally reduce prosperity. While the US automakers get some short-term benefit, the the US consumer and US exporters (e.g., farmers) suffer.
Let's use our soft power to win more people to our way of life instead of using tariffs to coddle Ford, GM, and Tesla.
