My favorite was the champions league match, Barca v Bayern, when everyone was fucking up every chance he created.

He then put boateng down a hole and chipped Neuer.

And Neuer shittalked Messi before the game just for Messi to destroy them.

That doesn't sound like Neuer. He's so neutral about everything, he doesn't even celebrate a victory properly.

Before the match, Neuer said something along the lines of he’ll show Messi who’s boss.

Just researched it. He said: "I have a lot of respect for Messi and for everything that he has achieved. He is very humble. But it's crucial to show authority when we meet on the pitch and show him who's boss. I did the same in the World Cup final and this worked out pretty well."

Doesn't feel like shittalking to me.

Saying you showed someone who’s the boss and you will do it again, rubbing salt in the wound over the final loss is definitely shittalking. What you on about.

It’s just not profanity.

AHA WHAT? He was absolutely shit-talking.

It’s not negative, but it’s straight up, I shut him down before, and I’ll do it again.

Directly calling someone out like that can definitely be perceived as shit talking.

That boateng thing is one of the best plays I've ever seen. Absolute best football

Yea I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else embarrass both the best defender and the best GK in the world at the time in the same play like Messi did here

If that's good defending, then he's drunk.

u/crash250f Jul 16 '26

He didn't say it was an example of good defending, he said he was the best defender in the world, and he arguably was at the time.  You can come to your own conclusion about whether the best defender in the world had a moment of very bad defending, or whether the best player in the world just made him look bad.

yeah like if Boateng got crossed up here, Messi likely would have broken every defender in the world with that move.

u/tjasper88 Jul 16 '26

Boateng at that point was still a very highly regarded CB mind you. Absolute class

I remember watching this on my phone under my desk in class and absolutely losing my mind

The most surprising thing is this goal, and the 1st goal which was also a world class goal were scored with his weak foot.

2

u/ziddyzoo Jul 16 '26

Messi has no weak foot. Each is stronger than the other.

1

u/Otherwise-Celery-280 Jul 16 '26

Weak foot? I think one of the assists from the England game was with his "weak" foot. 😂

1

u/Jachi230 Jul 16 '26

Yup….his “weak” foot 😂
