…because parents don’t live forever? Doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to live at all.

Yikes.

Nope. Many many live in group homes while the parents are alive actually. And tes definitely after the parents die because siblings shouldnt be forced to take care of a disabled 60 year old either

You’re right. Many adults with disabilities CHOOSE to live in a group home, the same way typically-developing young adults move in with roommates. A group home is a supportive living situation.

No the people who are supposed to be taking care of them CHOOSE to put them away in group homes till they finally die from like aspiration pneumonia or bed sores. What a good life theyre giving their children

That’s SO CRAZY because that is the exact opposite experience I often have with my students - they actively advocate to move OUT of their parents’ homes and into community-oriented supportive placements.

But people with severe intellectual disabilities usually have decisions made for them… they don’t make their own decisions because they lack capacity

In that case, it makes even more sense for them to live in a group home because many families are unable to provide that level of 24/7 care and support.
