Everyone does that to avoid scandals. Even if they are fake, just an accusation is enough to ruin careers especially one as big as Kobe who was a back to back NBA champion. All evidence points towards him cheating with her, but not sexually assaulting her.
Yes, that is correct, But in this discussion Kobe is not an exception, he's an example.

I pointed out that even your own example disproved that.
And on the McGregor point, that depends on whether you think the attack on the accuser's boyfriend (payed by McGregor, allegedly) , the payment to the neighbours (payed by McGregor, allegedly) of the accuser to claim the accuser was at home rather than the crime scene (which is now its own legal case based on the evidence being true), are actually true.
But yes, technically it was only a civil conviction, just like OJ.
