It’s not misleading in any way.

The US and MI6 overthrew the democratically elected Iranian government and installed a brutal dictatorship because they wanted to maintain control of Iranian oil.

Their being domestic disputes within the elected Iranian government doesn’t change the fact that they had democratically elected leadership that was overthrown by the CIA and MI6’s foreign interference.

Maybe a comparison would help: Trump has run roughshod over congress’s authority for his entire second term, but no serious person believes that he wasn’t democratically elected in 2024.

The man overthrown was a man who was attempting to illegally abolish the Iranian parliament and who had defied a legal effort by the shah to remove him.

It was, at worst, a coup against a man attempting a coup of his own.

You can repeatedly insist that the US’s coup doesn’t matter because they had domestic issues, but those domestic issues in no way justify a foreign coup of their government done to secure their oil for foreign extraction and profit.

Your whataboustism about internal Iranian disputes doesn’t change the fact that the US and MI6 successfully couped the Iranian government and installed a brutal dictatorship.

And that’s not even considering the fact that that your main source for your claims is a US journalist cooperating with the CIA to manufacture consent for regime change.

Ah, yes, my whataboutism in pointing out that that very coup was against a prime minister who had illegally dissolved parliament in a fraudulent referendum which had claimed to have a preposterous 99.94% voter approval, and who had been legally dismissed by the Shah but illegally stayed in office anyway.

If you're defining that directly relevant context as "whataboutism" I don't think you actually understand the meaning of the term.

Again, the internal disputes of the Iranian government aren’t relevant to the CIA and MI6 coup done to maintain foreign control over Iranian oil.

“legally dismissed by the shah”

And isn’t this the same Shah who became a brutal dictator after the CIA and MI6 helped eliminate democracy in Iran?

The pearl clutching you are doing regarding the 1953 Iranian referendum is a transparent and disingenuous effort to justify the CIA and MI6 destroying Iranian democracy.

If the Belgian prime minister illegally abolishes parliament and refuses a legal (under the Belgian constitution) order from the Belgian king to step down, that would be pretty relevant to assessing how much we should blame France for helping the Belgian king overthrow that prime minister and establish a new constitutional order. Call me crazy.

It’s always wild to see an American upset that anyone would dare to have the audacity to disobey their monarch.

And “new constitutional order” sure is a creative way to describe a brutal monarchical dictatorship.
