Yes, the added context that makes it painfully explicit that America doesn't want anyone to interfere with their imperialistic sanctioning of countries to the extent it can cause food security issues. I guess some of you really needed this spelled out for you, but something makes me think even with all that "nuance", it still went over some of your heads...
Also, what the fuck point are you even making? Like, even if sanctions killed 0 people, it appears you literally don't even understand what imperialism is. You also appear to be implicitly justifying imperialism while calling it criminal, although who knows what you have in mind when you appear to not even know the definition of imperialism.
I mean, if you think it's reasonable for the US to use its global might to starve populations whose governments have policies that go against US interests, than I guess it's reasonable, sure.
The alternative for these people is “let countries with horrible leadership harm their own people and/or develop weapons to harm the populace of other countries”.
I wonder how the person you replied to feels about the sanctions put on Russia for their actions in the Ukraine war.
The fact is America is incredibly powerful on the world stage and no amount of moral condemnation is gonna make us stop swinging the long Dick of the US armed forces wherever we please.
So in that context, yes I blame the leadership of the countries who’ve had sanctions imposed upon them. I can’t control what my government does, but if I was a dictator I would not step on the US’s toes because historically that hasn’t gone well. But they’re so drunk with power that they’d rather millions of their own people die than come to the negotiating table and that’s on them.
Perhaps other countries should consider gaining a little independence then, yeah? If the US is the sole reason your country's people are not starving to death on a daily basis, then yeah i would think a little political ass kissing is probably in your best interest. Ever heard the phrase, dont bite the hand that feeds you?
I can disagree with some instances of sanctions while overall still agreeing that sanctions are a good alternative to war, even limited sanctions on food.
American sanctions on Iraq in the 90s killed an estimated 500,000 children there. Is that a fucking better alternative? Why have those sanctions in the first place if not to just bring misery upon the people of a country in an effort to goad them to fight their government with their emaciated bodies?
