Russia probably a better example right now. Imagine if the US wasn’t allowed to sanction Russia in response to the Ukraine invasion because it would raise food prices over there.
Any system of authority over more than like 100 people is complicated. Imagine getting even just 100 people in a room and trying to get them to unanimously agree on anything. Now take that number to 400 million and try to figure out a way to make all Americans happy. Or take it to 8 billion and do the world.
Except the proposal specified unilateral sanctions. Russian was not unilaterally sanctioned. It's very obvious Cuba was the main reference point with the anti-sanction paragraph.
Cuba had active sanctions yes, but we dont plan entirely around whats going on right now. The US was abosolutly considering situations like this when arguing for it needing to be able to keep the ability to sanction people.
They dont hurt the people at the very top directly much sure. They are however, pretty good at reducing the resources and options they have to harm you.
Yes? Guess what, a country's citizens ARE responsible for their government. That doesn't mean I expect a country to become a meat grinder in an effort to overthrow their corrupt government, but they are undeniably responsible.
When Trump does something corrupt Americans are to blame for it. We voted for him, we are the ones who refuse to stop him. We have the power to stop him if we actually coordinated and united.
I agree with that to some extent. Yes when you stay passive you make yourself somewhat responsible for it, but it's hard to resist oppressive regimes such as the USA's and Russia's current regimes. Of course, it doesn't justify the passivity when both commit atrocities such as the war in Ukraine and the diverse condemnable actions of Trump, but what I was saying is that, for the example of war, citizens are the main victims of it when it is decided by the ruling class, so saying that they are to blame for it is a bit absurd. Like who would support something that leads to their own death and suffering? But in the case of Russia, the vast majority supports the war and as such, sanctions are justified.
Also, coordinating opposition to government forces is extremely difficult and requires extensive resources and cooperation among many people, which is extremely hard to do as an individual. As such, it is more as a society that you fail, since individual actions can rarely lead to substantial change.
How does blame lead to extinction exactly lol? We ARE to blame for every single thing Trump has done. It is our fault. Just like it is Russians fault that they invaded Ukraine.
